kinda bummed out about the last book i read, however it’s turned into a GREAT opportunity to enjoy this new one.
The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch. i don’t usually encounter books that i feel like i’ve been let down by, but this time around, i feel like there was a lot that wasn’t developed, explained or just included. I’m a HUGE fan of dystopian, post-apocolyptic reading, but this time around – well there wasn’t really much of it.
i’m not quite sure what led to the Collapse, and what P11 really was…and how some folks managed to avoid the ill-affects of it and survive. I also feel like there were a lot of relationships that weren’t developed to their fullest and characters that you don’t know their back story. I think that this is one of those books that if you want the quick read and don’t care for the depth, then go with it, but otherwise, maybe find something else to read.
at least it’s opened me up to REALLY enjoy the next book on my list which i’m more than 50% done with…Incarceron by Catherine Fisher. i should be done with it tonight since it’s really not like anything that i’ve read before and i really like it!
Today is Dauntless Day – for those of you who know about the 5 Factions – we – the Dauntless have no fears and are more than willing to go first!
Divergent – the first book of the series from Veronica Roth has it’s highly anticipated 2nd book coming out in just a handful of days. Stay tuned for Insurgent!
Something that i’ve noticed about the types of books that i read – they are either Dystopian / post apocolyptic or they are fantasy in some way. those are my buckets and that’s definitely not the way that things used to be. The challenge though is making sure that i keep them all fresh in my mind as i wait for the next book in a series to come out. It’s no help to anyone when you can’t keep things straight.
Suffice it to say, I’m with my Dauntless brothers and sisters – all dressed in our black gear, flaunting tattoos, piercings, being rebels while really just being sure of ourselves, trying to figure out how to make the rest of the civilization know that we’re NOT THEIR PAWNS to help in a war that we don’t support.
I’m planning my personal stake out though – going to the Barnes & Nobles on 5/1 to meet Veronica Roth and get my #DivergenNation on and my #INSURGENT excitement going.
Over the last couple of weeks, you’ve heard us talking about the upcoming #daemoninvasion and we’re so excited to finally share with you what is going on.
The beautiful and uber cool models, Pepe Toth and Sztella Tziotziosz, who grace the Lux covers, will be joining us in the United States! You heard right. They are flying here, from Hungary to spend a few days as Daemon and Katy! While they are here, they will be working with Vania, from VLC Productions (the team behind Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments, Melissa de La Cruz, Kimberly Derting, Moira Young, Kami Garcia and Margret Stohl, Hillary Duff, Lauren Destefano, and many, many more authors’ book trailers), to film book trailers for the Lux Series.
During the filming in Atlanta, they will be accompanying us on tour! What does that mean? You get to meet them. In the flesh. They will be participating in the signings and events. At those signings, we’ll be giving away signed posters, photos, and other swag. There will also be meet and greet events you can join in on.
At each signing, there will be advanced copies of Onyx given away!
And to top things off (as if this isn’t enough, but we don’t do anything small), there’s something very, very exciting in the works! It involves advanced copies of Opal, water, and a little destination known as the Bahamas.
I am not kidding.
This will be epic.
Aare you excited? I am! This tour is going to be so, so much fun, and I’m so thrilled that Pepe and Sztella are a part of it. We owe them a huge thank you and a giant welcome making the 16 hour flight to meet the readers of the Lux Series. You!

So I got it in my head that my taste in books is some what on par with a lot of other folks, so here’s to testing my theory. I like to read….A LOT. My husband doesn’t quite understand why I’ve always got my nose in a book, why I’m staying up super late at night just to get to the next chapter, or to finish a book.
You guys get it – at least that’s what I’m hoping!
The other idea that surprise surprise – my husband gave me was that people might actually like to know what i think about books and to find out what the next great read is – or what to avoid – or to know what i think of characters. So, this is my attempt at finding folks to TALK about books with.
Article 5 by Kristen Simmons –
It took me just 1 day to both start and finish it, so that should tell you that either it’s a short book (which it’s not) or a good read. Earlier this year, someone mentioned to me that I seem to drift towards Dystopian stories – and i guess that’s the case since this is exactly that.
What’s not to like about reading what’s become of our civilization when the country fought itself, and I guess lost – so there are new rules and control put into place. Intertwined in a coming of age story is a romance that you just root for from the beginning even though you know very few details. You don’t know why Ember keeps thinking about her next door neighbor Chase and what their true relationship was, but you do find out that they really mean the world to each other and are stronger than they realize. (at least Ember is).
What i think was missing a little bit was the character development that you see in similar stories – where you get to know a bit more about the secondary folks – and when they aren’t really elaborated on but warrant it, a 1/2 story is then written to share with you their perspective and story. maybe we’ll see more of that once the series really takes shape – but i think that it’s worth picking up. Road Trip…Learning who to trust…Falling in Love and realizing that it’s worth it…all the good things that go into a book!
Anyway – pick it up if you haven’t read it, and i’ll be back soon with something new to talk about i’m sure.
