Overview

Who is Sebastian Lock?

The bar Sophia Pearce is in doesn’t look like much. The wine is bad and the decor worse. But when a sudden attack of curiosity leads her to sneak past security and into the back room, she discovers something unimaginable. The most lavish party she’s ever laid eyes on, in the most unlikely of places.

But that’s nothing compared to what comes next, to the man she meets back there. Sebastian Lock. Gorgeous, commanding, and radiating charm, he is exactly the sort of silver-tongued rake Sophia has sworn to avoid. Unfortunately, he doesn’t care much for her promises.

Every instinct tells her to run, but the chemistry between them is as inescapable as gravity. Soon, he’s opening her eyes to a whole new world of pleasures, pleasures she never thought she’d enjoy.

There’s just one problem. Sebastian is more than he seems. Between the famous company he keeps and the almost paranoid secrecy of his employers, he’s a puzzle Sophia can’t quite solve, and his insistence on keeping things casual forces her to confront the demons of her past.

Can she learn to trust again? Or will Sebastian’s privacy tear them apart?

My Thoughts

This is an interesting dynamic that we have – Sophia is a successful lawyer, while not quite getting the successes that she deserves and Sebastian is an enigma.  He’s clearly powerful, wealthy and mysterious.  It’s not surprising that we see this type of connection between them since it’s usually the masculine authority and appeal that a dom has that is able to bring even the most strong willed independent and successful women to her knees.  literally.

From the first moment that they meet, there’s a connection that can’t be denied.  Sophia has to then decide what she’s going to allow to happen within the constraints of what Sebastian actually allows to happen since he has all the control.  She’s not sure if she trusts him,not only because she knows zero about him, but because she saw a glimpse of interesting paperwork on his desk….among other things.  she has a bad history with guys and that makes her gun shy too.

The challenge then becomes, how much is she going to let him in, and what does that mean when he clearly does simple and no significant ties to a person.  it’s interesting to see the way that this begins to play out in book 1, especially since we don’t get too far into it.  we know that he has the means to find her since he tracked her down at her office, yet he doesn’t give up anything about himself.  phone number, address, personal information.

i can’t wait to see how much he pushes her and how much she gives in.  i’m also really curious as to what he does, and if Sophia will ever see success in her work life.  i don’t know why – but that’s actually important to me in this story.
