 My Thoughts

Given the ending and epilogue of book 2, i was a bit saddended since i though that our journey with Sophie and Lucien as main characters was over, but luckily that’s not what we really got.  While this final book in the series focused on Dylan and Kara, we were certainly not let down with the continuation of where Sophie and Lucien’s life went.

This story picks up a few years into the future, after Sophie and Lucien’s relationship has been cemented – in the sense that they are happy with their daughter Tilly, and secure in what the other means to them.  We know that Lucien still has no need for marriage and Sophie seems ok with that .

We are taken from London to Ibiza where Lucien is opening his next Gateway club and Sohpie and her bestie Kara are opening their next boutique location.  It’s nice to see that the girls are becoming established in their own way, and that Sophie isn’t reliant on Lucien for her success and to feel like she has value.  Kara also has found her niche – and she’s got purpose now that her life has been turned upside down a bit.  She has just been jilted and left at the altar by her fiance so this move to Ibiza is exactly what she needs.

At the same time of the trio’s arrival to the island, Dylan also finds his way to Ibiza.  His reason for being there is completely different – he’s trying to escape from something back home and doens’t want to be found.  This is a constant throughout the book – which is nice since you don’t really know what he’s running and hiding from, just that he is.  He creates a new identity for himself as Dylan Day and tries to find a place for himself.  It’s a chance encounter with Lucien, he goes to the club looking for the previous owner, and by some chance of luck, Lucien trusts his gut about Dylan and gives him a chance by allowing him to work for him.

It’s the same time that Kara and Dylan’s paths cross as well, forever changing them too.  Dylan is exactly what Kara needs, in the sense that she’s not necessarily looking for a relationship, but she’s looking for someone to keep her company, and Dylan does that – very well.  They embark on a really active and steamy relationship that reminds us of what Sophie and Lucien have, even though their relationship isn’t as new.  There’s nothing missing there – certainly not a dull and boring couple.

What i appreciate about this story is that there were surprises tied to Dylan’s past that keep coming up and you continue to wonder what’s going to happen next. There’s a bit of under-world ness in the sense that his oldest brother died, and it’s never clear exactly what happens there…just that it’s affected Dylan very much.  We also meet Dylan’s younger brother Justin through some questionable means, and that makes things even more complicated.  Where Justin takes Dylan at the end of the story is both unexpected and interesting.

The nice thing about this story as well is that we do get the roller coaster of lies and love and passion that I’ve come to expect in books of this genre, and i feel like where book 2 kind of let me down, book 3 has picked me back up.  We get heat and passion which is very nicely done, maybe a little tame at times given that Kara and Sophie own a sex shop and Lucien owns a sex club, but i suppose all sceneing doesn’t have to be that hot all the time right?  We also get a complicated relationship that is based on lies, while trying to build trust all the same.

The other nice thing is that while all this is going on with Kara and Dylan, there’s another story going on for Sophie and Lucien, and it’s a really nice conclusion to where they have been and what’s ahead in the future.  it made me all weepy to be honest, and that’s a nice thing since i’m one for happier endings.
