Overview

Rafe Ranier was my boss and secret crush. A rock musician by night and head of a billion dollar empire by day, Rafe could have any woman he wanted. But I was just the shy secretary he never noticed. For years I obsessed over him, until I finally realized I had to walk away. I needed to break from the secure life I’d always known to discover who I really was.

I never expected Rafe to follow me.

Now I’m on the road with his band, Savage Kiss, and all my secret fantasies are coming true. But I fear I’ve made a huge mistake, because if I get any more attached to a man I can never truly have, my heart will be broken beyond all repair.

My Thoughts

Our journey continues with Rafe/Storm now on tour, but the question is what will happen to this couple now that they are together, yet they have so much temptation – or at least Melanie does.

This installment takes us to a hot place – where we see encounters of passion happen that were never expected and yet so welcome.  The problem though is that it makes thoughts/feelings come up for Rafe that he’s not prepared for and it could be detrimental to the relationship and even his friendship with the band.

Also, what this brings to the forefront is that he and Travis never had it out with each other after Storm left Jessica, so that’s something that we see confronted here as well.  The ending of this 5th – CLIFF HANGER! .  i guess my assumption that it was the final book was wrong – since i see that there’s a 6th – i just don’t have my hands on the ARC yet and it doesn’t come out til July so i don’t know what i’m going to do.  Where Ms. Carew left us is a tense place – someone’s gone missing, there are unsettled feelings among the band and the couple, and i’m not sure what the resolution will be. Enjoy!

so, as we know, Melanie has decided to go on tour and Rafe has stayed in Philly to work on the company.  What will the distance between them mean especially since they left on bad terms?  well your guess is as good as mine.

It’s not just the distance that’s putting a crimp in things.  She now has to deal with her clear sexual attraction with Travis – who doesn’t seem to want to take no for an answer, and Melanie begins to wonder if she shouldn’t say no.  then one night Diego – another bandmade decides to hint at a threesome with her and Travis, so we know what rabbit hole they are about to go down.

This really makes for some tension and passion that’s become a trait of our author Ms. Carew.  I think that it’s something that builds anticipation as we’re nearing the end of a story and I can’t wait to see what it means.  I mean, sometimes it seems like it’s a competition between the guys for Melanie and sometimes i see that Melanie just doesn’t want to have to choose.  She just wants to explore that side of things – the controlling side of sex which all the boys seem to be more than willing to help with – aside from Rafe.

Onto what i think is the finale – book 5 to see if we’re coming to the end of bliss – since a drunken Diego seems to flip the switch on everyone, and the world comes crashing down.

My Thoughts

just to preface – the summary above is a bit out of order since Melanie was only offered the roadie job with the band – she hasn’t accepted it yet, but based on where things are going with with her and Rafe, and her and Travis for that matter, it’s easy enough to assume that she’s going to accept.

In this 3rd installment, we see things between Melanie and ‘Storm/Rafe’ heating up in a good way – they are hot for each other and really get into role playing.  where ever they can.  Travis continues to have a role in things, and that makes for an uncertain future.  I guess the question that lies ahead is

1) who will she choose

2) when will Rafe be ready for a relationship since it’s pushing Melanie away

3) what’s next for Melanie since she hates her job and wants to be an artist but doesn’t have the means or confidence.

Off to book 4 🙂

The saga continues – with a rock concert, a dive into unknown territory – some heat and passion….and a potential love triangle?  Didn’t expect that one to come along, but i’m not sad that it has.  We welcome Travis, Jessica’s brother and Rafe’s bandmate into the story – and it’ll be interesting to see how things pan out, especially since Travis has no idea that Rafe is a billionaire and the brother to his sister’s fiance, and Rafe has claimed to not want a relationship right now.  where will that put Melanie?  Only the next chapters will tell.

My Thoughts

It’s been a while since i was involved in this series – or these characters for that matter, so it took a few seconds to jog my memory – but i’m glad that i’ve come across this ARC from Netgalley.

If you’ll remember, we met Melanie, Rafe and his brother Dane and girlfriend Jessica in the last series His to Possess.  Now we get to begin the story of Rafe and Melanie, and that’s where this first novella installment takes us.

Melanie used to work for Rafe but quit her job and is getting a better idea of what it means to be free and independent.  The question that we’ll get to see answered i hope is whether Rafe will be able to help her discover her freedom and inner self and what that will mean for everyone.  at only 25 pages or so, there’s not much that we get to see yet, but at least it’s a nice introduction, all brought together from a tattoo and a motorcycle.  Enjoy!

Where for Art Thou – Book Club ?

Going off on a little tangent here for a moment – so apologies here.  I’m stuck in a bit of a rut and I’m not sure what to do.  Some of my friends from work are in a book club, and it’s inspired me to find one to join – but i can’t seem to find one that feels like it would be a good fit.

The one that my friends are in focus mostly on the ‘pop culture’ type books – the ones that are being made into movies or the series / books that are the talk of the moment.  While i’m interested in those – chances are i’ve read them already, when they first came out and have strong opinions because i’m a die hard fan.

Then, there’s the question about finding the book club that supports readers who love erotica – which is really something that I’d love to get into.  There’s something to be said about a bunch of friends sitting around analyzing the dynamics of a relationship that’s based on an alpha dominant and a ‘beta’ or yang who needs to be directed.

so…this leaves me in my conundrum.  Living in NYC, you’d assume that there’s a lot of option for me – tons of book clubs that would suit my needs, but I haven’t been able to find them.  I’ve searched online and the few that i’ve found descriptions of don’t seem like they’d be interesting enough for me.  I’m looking for a good debate, but also for some friends that i can bond over books with, and those who can keep pace with me in reading.  (or at least try).

Short Short here….if you know of any good book clubs in NYC – feel free to direct me to them, and if you have suggestions on how to find them aside from going online to Meet-Up or checking in the library or local book store (i’ve tried those), i’m ALL EARS.

Happy Friday All!

Review: The Diamond Ring (The Unbreakable Trilogy #3) by Primula Bond

Title: The Diamond Ring
Author:  Primula Bond
Publisher/Year:  Harper Collings 5/22/14
Length:  400 Pages
Series: The Unbreakable Trilogy #3

Overview

Passion. Love. Betrayal. And a very dramatic climax… The Unbreakable Trilogy reaches its unforgettable conclusion. A must-read for fans of erotic romance. From Primula Bond, author of Sunday Times bestselling The Silver Chain and The Golden Locket.“You don’t know how beautiful you are, Serena. That’s the danger.”Engaged to be married, life should be blissful for Gustav and Serena. It should be a time of happiness; a time to plan their wedding and their future together. But the ghosts of Gustav’s past have returned to haunt him, and one in particular casts a dangerous shadow over their relationship. Margot, Gustav’s bitter and twisted ex-wife, is determined to destroy everything that Gustav holds dear. Starting with Serena…From the glamour of Paris to the exotic wilds of Morocco, The Diamond Ring will take you on a sensual, sexy journey like no other – with a finale you won’t forget.

My Thoughts

I suppose I can say that it’s an appropriate ending to the series – you get exactly what you were expecting.  I think that my challenge is there was a lot of the same…..but let me explain.

So in this final installment to the series, we once again reunite with Gustav and Serena when they are in a happy place – G has proposed and they are getting ready to plan the next chapter in their lives.  Serena’s gallery is open and they are finally finding a good place to be in.  The challenge of course is that G and Pierre’s relationship is still a bit rocky and Polly has once again run off –  this time to Morocco in the hopes of straightening herself out.  Of course what we know though is that when there’s happiness, the other shoe will drop and their world will be turned upside down again, and of course it’s by Margot.

In this book, what we get is the incredibly evil side of Margot, and we get drawn into her plot that’s been devised to use people around G and Serena to break them up since Margot is delusional to believe that she’s got a future with Gustav.  Pierre was a pawn in it all, and while he came to his senses, the damage was done and the question in this final installment is will he and his brother ever fix their relationship and what will it take to get there..

The other piece of this story is the paranoia that Serena feels every day.  she’s forced to question everything that she believes to be true about G and there’s so much that leads her down the dark path.  He’s secretive about his business dealings, always leaving town for a deal or negotiation or staying out late – and when Margot plants the seed that he’s been with her, and show’s Serena films of it happening just the week prior, Serena has nothing to do but to believe that she’s been lied to .

Aside from the roller coaster plot though, we continue to get a lot of the same in the sense that we see Serena evolve even further into her voyeurism, and partaking of the pleasure when she’s on a job.  She reunites with the dancers from Club Creme and participate in their naughty activities and the story with them continues.  There’s a lot of exploration and intrigue as well since we know that Gustav allows her to play with others, and we see Serena continue to come out of her shell.  The downside to all this though is like i said before, a lot of the same.  I think that i’ve come to expect certain things to happen in each scene, and when they play out exactly as my mind expects, it’s a bit of a let down.

Regardless, there’s kidnapping, anxeity, lies, deceit, and well, a lot of romance and passion which makes for an exciting conclusion to a series.  I think that the path that this story takes is a nice one and you hope that certain relationships will fix themselves so everyone can be happy and you hope that some never existed to begin with.  It’s what some of the secondary characters bring that makes the story even more robust and that’s something that Ms. Bond has done nicely in this series.  I can’t wait to see what’s next for her since our journey with Serena and Gustav has come to it’s end.  I hope you enjoyed it!

Excerpt

“This is where you’ll be sleeping,” Flynn said, pushing open a small door.
I peeked inside and was taken aback. The room was no bigger than a closet. The bed was nothing more than a cot with a pathetic little mattress on one side of the room and a miniature writing desk in front of a tiny window. It was dark, drab, and nothing like my room at home. I suddenly had second thoughts about what I was doing.
“Disappointed?” Flynn asked.
“No, it’s fine,” I lied. I was a cabin boy now; I could not expect the luxuries of a governor’s daughter any longer. It was a sacrifice I was willing to make in my journey to find Jane.

Review: For King and Country (The Royals Saga #1) by Geneva Lee

Title: For King and Country
Author:  Geneva Lee
Publisher/Year:  Westminster Press 5/5/14
Length:  275 Pages
Series: The Royals Saga #1

Overview

When he kissed me, I was shocked. He was a stranger and still so familiar. It wasn’t until I woke up to my picture splashed on the cover of tabloids that I realized I knew who he was.

Prince Alexander of Cambridge.

Royal bad boy.

Exiled heir to the throne.

He isn’t Prince Charming. He’s controlling. He’s demanding. He’s dangerous. And I can’t say no to him.

We both have secrets—secrets that could tear us apart or drive us closer together—and as the paparazzi exposes each one, I have to decide just how far I’m willing to go for King and Country.

My Thoughts

LOVED. IT.

I don’t say that lightly or often, but yes, i LOVED IT.  This was a take on the genre that i haven’t read at all before and it was so nice.  Not just the fact that it’s a royal and not a billionaire, but that there’s so much more complex about it because of that.

We begin this story on the precipice of something big for Clara our leading lady – she’s just graduating from Oxford and starting her life as an individual.  It’s at the ceremony / party that her best friend Belle tells her that she really needs to take some chances and get back out there in the dating world since she’s single and really needs to secure her future.  Among this crowd it’s all about money and title, and while Clara has the money, she’s still a bit scorned given that she’s semi-American – meaning that she’s got an American accent even though she has British citizenship since her father is a Brit.

So, it’s on this day that her life changes – while she’s running out of the party room to cry and de-stress, she sees a stranger in the darkness that she baits a bit – not intentionally of course – just telling him that smoking isn’t allowed – and these words really change her world.  He has this sexual magnetism that draws her in, and she finds herself in an intimate situation with him that she’s now sure she wants to end.  He’s a stranger and this is what makes it exciting.

It’s the next morning like the synopsis says that she discovers that he’s a stranger, but to only her – he’s the prince and her life is now in the tabloids.  What she soon learns though is that there’s so much darkness around him, and that maybe it’s still worth the exciting fling.  since that’s all she thinks he wants since he’s a ‘playboy’ or at least that’s what the gossip rags say.

Where we are taken on this journey is one where there are so many secrets that they both hold close to them, but they find that there’s definitely more than just a physical attraction.  The problem of course is that Alexander is the prince and there are expectations of who he will be with and what he’s to do.  His family is a mess – his father is domineering, his mother is dead, and his brother seems to be their only ally.  The circle that surrounds Alexander also makes things even more difficult given that Clara knows they will hate her and think she’s a whore – all of which Alexander couldn’t care less about.

What i think was really amazing about this story is that we’re given some of the secrets – not all – and i think that there’s definitely more to come.  Alexander is haunted by the death of his sister Sarah – a result of a car accident that he doesn’t remember – but i have a feeling that Pepper knows something – and that personally i think that it was her fault.  I don’t know.

What i do hope is that Clara and Alexander will find a way to be together and be happy – since that seems impossible.  they have such chemistry and passion between them that it seems like it’s suited for a happy ending.

The other nice thing here is that we see that Alexander is a dominant.  Not in the nice safe way at least – that’s what makes this even better – he’s got a fury and anger that he tries to control and reign in, but it manifests in a hot and over-powering need for Clara, all the time.  and he’s not gentle…which while i don’t know if i like – i can appreciate in this story.

I can’t wait not until book 2 comes out – and it sounds like i’ll have to wait until the fall.  I’ll be waiting eagerly for it, because i’m really invested now – i loved the characters -their dynamics, and i think that even without the heat between these 2, there’s still a great story.  we’re all hoping for the best for Edward, David, and even Belle  – and i think that their journeys will continue with gusto along side Clara and Alexander.

I’ll try to be patient – i don’t know how well that will work.  enjoy!!

Review: Take This Man (Give & Take #3.5) by Kelli Maine

9781455599028_p0_v8_s260x420

Title: Take this Man
Author:  Kelli Maine
Publisher/Year:  Grand Central Publishing 3/4/14
Length:  100 Pages
Series: Give & Take #3.5

Overview

A man never wanted a woman as much as he wants her.

Merrick Rocha is the kind of man who makes a woman yearn for more. And for Rachael DeSalvo, he’s the kind of man who could easily fit into her picture of happily-ever-after. With each touch, each kiss, her body is thrilled as she never knows what to expect next. Their wedding day-and night-are no exception.

Now, as they come together as one, free to trust as deeply as their bodies connect, Rachael is finally ready to . . .

TAKE THIS MAN

My Thoughts

My hones opinion here, there wasn’t a need to have another novella – this would have served just fine as the epilogue to the last book Given – but oh well.  i’m not the author.  The thing here is that there was nothing unexpected or even tension developing – it was just a tale of a marriage that we were all expecting.  It was nicely done though and what this final installment shows us is that the story has come to a great conclusion – where things are finally beginning to fall into place and relationships all around are growing stronger.

We see that Merrick’s actions from the very beginning were right for this pair, and that Rachael’s passion is what Merrick needed in order to move on with his life.  Its all nice and sweet – yet rather un-fulfilling in the sense that i feel like i kept waiting for something to happen.
