Overview

For Lacey Callihan, things couldn’t get much worse. She’s working a dead-end job, living with a dead-end boyfriend and stuck in a dead-end town. When Lacey’s boyfriend steals her meager life savings and hits her for questioning him, it’s the last straw. She skips town in her rustheap of a car – which she can only pray will get her as far as Texas. And it does. Spluttering to a final stop just as she crosses the border. But when two ultra-hot cowboys pull up in their convertible red Mustang and offer her a ride, Lacey has a feeling her luck is about to change …

My Thoughts

Short and sweet  – that’s what this story was.  What we have is a quick read about a girl who’s had a really rough go at things and finds herself in a completely different situation.  This isn’t a deep story by any means, and really not very realistic/believable, but there’s something about it that i can appreciate.

We meet our leading lady Lacey on her 21st birthday – where she’s living in a dead end town, working a dead end job and has a dead end relationship with a guy that she’s sure cheats on her and knows steals from her.  She’s been stowing money away from him in the hopes that she can get away, and it’s when she discovers that he’s found her stash and taken it from her that it’s the last straw.  He slaps her and she’s out the door.

This is where things really begin to get a bit less believable though.  She jumps in her car that we were led to believe didn’t run, and while it barely runs, it does run.  So she leaves Tulsa in the hopes of driving to Austin to find a friend that she knew from high school, and he car breaks down just as she crosses into Texas.  To her luck, 2 cars come by on the highway, the first one stops to help her and he seems creepy and of course the other car slowly begins to pass, and there are 2 gorgeous guys in it.  OF COURSE!

So they save her, take her with them to Houston, and the ride is where everything changes for Lacey.  She admits that she’s really inexperienced, and the men take it upon themselves to educate her – while they are driving.  I don’t know about anyone else who read this, but i can’t imagine that there was enough room in a Mustang to do what they were doing.

Anyhow, from then on we see an interesting relationship grow between these guys – a menage of sorts that quickly turns into a traditional duo, but the question becomes which guy will it be, Nate – the bigger, darker, more alpha one, or Riley  the lean, sexy, charismatic on.

While most of the story seemed a bit light and fantasy to me, what i liked is that we still stay true to the core here that Lacey isn’t looking for anything more than safety.  the epilogue shows us that she still has her independence and that she’s able to make her own way, yet ,the question that we’ll see is who she makes it with.  In many stories in this genre, we see the girl get completely sucked into the guys world, really just living to please her man, and that’s not the approach that was taken here.

Anyhow, a quick read like i said, with some really nice play and passion.  I’m a sucker for menage scenes i think – seeing how they can make the dynamic work when it’s amongst friends/family.  Enjoy!
