Julia Lyle will have nothing to do with domineering men, no matter how tall, dark, and sexy. But Dom Marcus Cavendish will be satisfied with nothing less than collaring the fiercely independent Julia.

Nothing could have shocked her more…

Julia Lyle is invited to her best friend’s wedding and is stunned when Lana kneels to accept her husband’s collar. When Julia starts to object, firm, relentless hands land on her shoulders. The man behind her threatens to turn her over his knee if she interrupts. She’s outraged, but there’s no doubt he’s serious.

After the ceremony, he offers her a glimpse into her friend’s lifestyle, if she’s brave enough to accept.

Master Marcus Cavendish is everything she doesn’t want in a man—dominant, self-assured and arrogant. So why can’t she resist him?

Telling herself that learning about the lifestyle will make her a better friend, Julia agrees to submit to Master Marcus, but only for the evening. Firm and unrelenting in his handling of her, he introduces her to his tawse and the pleasure/pain of a spanking delivered by a competent Dom. The experience unnerves her, making her question everything she thought she knew about relationships, and his forced orgasms leave her shattered.

No doubt the scene seduced her, and that makes her doubly determined to avoid him. She has fought hard for her freedom and vowed only to date nice men, and Master Marcus is anything but safe.

Marcus is undeterred. Julia is a natural sub. The way she responded to his touch, his voice, his punishment proved it. Now he has to convince her to yield to him, submitting to his tawse as she kneels to accept his collar

My Thoughts

I’m a sucker for a story about an established Dom – someone who knows exactly what it is that they want and who can take the time to train a sub who doesn’t even know that she IS one and someone who’s actually kind of against the lifestyle in general.

That’s what we get in this introduction to the series.  As the summary above says, Julia only becomes aware of the BDSM lifestyle because she’s been invited to her best friend Lana’s wedding, which turns out to be a combination wedding and collaring ceremony.  Lana feels that Julia is the least likely to have issue with her choices, and while that should be true, it’s not since Julia is about to contest it during the celebration.  Lucky for her, Marcus – MASTER Marcus is there to put a stop to her complaints when it could become problematic, and from there, we get to see exactly what it is that he’s capable of.

What was meant to be just one night for Julia we all know will have to be more.  If there’s nothing more to expect from our author – Ms. Cartwright delivers the pull of BDSM in a way that few authors are able to successfully do for us.  We see that he’s in control, on a variety of toys and tools, and that’s something that everyone know will have to last for more than a night.  Marcus has a way of showing us that Spanking, be it in whatever form is required is intense, and Julia – someone who’s never even imagined experiencing it learns that it’s a great thing for her.  The other piece is that we also see the varying levels of comfort among the characters which is something that i’ve really come to appreciate from our author.

While we don’t get the back story on any of our mains, we come to appreciate how they have come to the place that they are in.  Be it the controlling relationship that Julia was in that makes her avoid all things domineering of men, or the fact that Marcus had collared someone in the past to learn that she wasn’t what he needed.  That’s what makes the story great.

It’s a battle of wits, pride, and inner strength in the sense that while we know what the outcome will be, we don’t necessarily know what path it’ll take to get there.  I for one would love to see more of Ben and Lana – i’d love to hear about how their story really began.  I’d also love to see more of Gregorio and even Damien since we only got a glimpse into them in this introduction to the series.  So , here’s to hoping for more great heat, passions, sex, and lessons in all things BDSM, and i’m going to continue on with the series to see who’s next on deck.  enjoy!

It had to be her. He won’t be satisfied until he claims her.

Kennedy Aldrich has perfected the art of dodging any romantic entanglement that will lead to marriage. That is until he sees Mackenzie Farrell at a BDSM gathering.

When they meet, he’s entranced by her intelligence and submission, not to mention her stunning good looks. For the first time, he has met a woman who captivates his interest on every level, someone he wants to share his life with.

Mackenzie is overwhelmed by Kennedy’s attentions. A failed marriage taught her to distrust men, and she’s vowed never to walk down the aisle again.

It takes all her resolve to resist the devilishly handsome Dominant. After all, the whole world knows of his legendary reputation with women. Every feminine instinct warns that this man will demand more than she can offer.

But she hasn’t counted on Kennedy’s determination to claim her and prove that love is worth any risk.

My Thoughts

I have to say that i have the same thoughts coming out of this 2nd installment to the Bonds series that i had from the first – that we get exactly what we have come to love and expect from our author in terms of the characters and story line, yet i think that there’s so much more that could have been done that it felt like a novella v. a 2nd installment.

So like the summary tells us, we have 2 characters that have their own fair share of relationship issues.  Kennedy is the successful member of the  boys club, and it’s his turn to step up to the relationship game – although it’s not something that he really went out looking for.  His mom wants him to get married off and while that’s not his motive in life, some of this friends (outside of the boys club) are taking it upon themselves to help him out.  In a way, it helps him since there has been gossip tied to him lately and that’s something that while he doesn’t care about it, he’d like to diffuse it.

That same night when Kennedy is trying to diffuse, he re-meets Dar as we meet her here, real name Mackenzee – or Zee as he likes to call her.  She’s damaged – coming out of a relationship where her husband cheated on her and while she knows that it wasn’t her, she isn’t in the market to ever get married again.  Meeting Kennedy, a dom that clearly knows what he wants and how he wants it it becomes a huge challenge for her and a sexual draw.

The journey that we go on with these 2 is a nice one – we see that Zee really needs to be pushed by someone, to be challenged since she’s really been the one to put the limits on everything in her life.  from professional to personal.  She calls the shots, she says when, and Kennedy is definitely not the sort to even abide by any of that.  Kennedy goes out of his comfort zone in the sense that he’s allowing a woman to distract him from life – to get absorbed into the romance of things and that’s a great transition for him.

There’s great scening, the way that the story is written from within The Hub (the BDSM club that things kick off in) is hot – there’s really a great variety of what can be done there, who’s involved and the rules and safety tied to it.  Maybe not as hard core as a lot of other stories in the genre, but still hot enough to make you feel like you’re right there tied up to the cross or square with these D/s relationships.

The anxiety and tension that we get comes in the form of an ultimatum which is something that Zee can’t stand for and doesn’t – and the resolution is up in the air on who will make the move, if either will and what it will mean.  While the story takes the expected path, i think that it felt a little rushed to me.  Again back to the notion that this felt more like a novella than a novel, i think that it’s because the story takes place over a path of just a few weeks to get us to this climatic place, and while in erotica that’s normal, it felt like it was still hurried.  we get great kink and sex, but i don’t know that we were taken to the level that we could have if it were expanded on.  Regardless, i think that we get to see a lot more of Kennedy and get to learn quite a bit about Zee and that in itself is a success.

The question remains as to which of the boys is next, and i kind of hope that Julien’s pilot Svetlana continues to play a role and that we get to see her as a main one of these days as well.  so….Enjoy!

She still craved him… The sight of a collar in her boyfriend’s drawer had stunned Sarah. Panicking, she had fled. But no other man has ever been his equal.

Two years ago, the woman he’d hoped to collar and marry disappeared. So Reece McRae is stunned to find his former girlfriend on her knees, behaving as the submissive he’d always wanted.

Is it too late? He should refuse her, but an undeniable sexual attraction consumes him.

Sarah had been under Reece’s spell from the moment she met him. When she found a steel collar in his drawer, she panicked. The idea of a lifetime of his relentless demands, sensual and otherwise, suffocated her.

In the years they’ve been apart, she hasn’t met his equal. Now, convinced one last night will vanquish his memory, she sets out to seduce him.

The Reece she returns to is even more determined to have his way. Is she now strong enough, brave enough, to surrender to his love?

My Thoughts

What we have here is what felt like a novella as an intro to a series when i think that it would have been ok to be longer.  I don’t know yet though – maybe the cadence of the whole series will be better suited as these shorter installments.

the sense that i get from this story is another one along the lines of The Billionaire Boys Club which is one of my fav series – where there is a group of 4+ really close knit guy friends who are all successful in their own right and who have yet to settle down.  Their tastes are rather similar and that’s something that i feel like will continue to bring their journeys together.

In this first book we meet Reece and Sarah – a couple who has been apart from each other for 2 years after Sarah got scared of what it seemed like Reece wanted from her.  He was her first introduction into the lifestyle and what a collar represented to her was different than what it meant to Reece – causing her to run scared.

The past 2 years have given Reece time to harden towards her and Sarah’s regretted the choice over and over again.  It’s when she decides to use their mutual friend Julien as a way to get back together that things get dicey.

This short story is really about what it will take to admit to yourself that you’re still really attracted to one another and then decide whether you’re able to put the past behind you to come together or if it’s better to be left alone.  With the way that these 2 main characters are written, i think that it’s safe to say that we will see them fight for what they believe and really not let anyone else sway them from what they want.

The chemistry that we get typically from Ms. Cartwright follows suit in this series.  You can feel the sparks between them coming off the pages and what they do – their scenes and play time is hot, naughty and full of those elements that make it just a bit darker than straight up erotica.  There are moments of clear cut BDSM here that show that Reece is a dom that knows what he’s doing and we see that Sarah’s knowledge and skill at being a sub was basic before and has been perfected to what we see now.  All great bits of a story that make it even more intriguing to read.

All of that put together makes me pleased that i found this story (thank you great cover art) and i think that the journey that we take with this group of guys will be one that will keep me entertained for quite some time.  enjoy!

When Amery Hardwick first met martial arts master Ronin Black, she wasn’t ready for the primal urges his sensual rope artistry released in her. As it turned out Amery and Ronin were made for each other. But when they head to Japan for a delayed honeymoon and Ronin’s annual training with his sensei, Amery struggles to adapt to the foreign customs as well as running her burgeoning business from afar. But culture shock is the least of her worries when faced with the changes in Ronin—it feels as if she’s married a stranger. Caught between his sensei’s demands and pleasing his wife, Ronin is at war with himself over choosing advancement in his jujitsu training, or staying at home with the woman who owns his heart and soul. As the limits of their relationship are tested once again, Ronin and Amery discover that they both have a lot to learn about each other….and what it takes to build a love that’ll pass all life’s little tests.

My Thoughts

This is a great continuation of a story that we really invested a lot of time with so far.  The romance that blossomed between Amery and Ronin was a rough one – since they come from such different worlds but to see how well they fit together – there’s something great there and seeing how their lives will continue to merge is something that i can’t wait for.

So as the summary said – we are with these 2 as they are on their way to Japan – both for the belated honeymoon as well as for Ronin’s training with his master since he’s been cleared to go back to intense training.  While he’s made it clear what this will entail for Amery while she’s there with him, she’s never really prepared and finds that it’s much harder than expected.

I have to say that it’s one of the more realistic qualities that this author brings to us – knowing that it’s set up to be a challenge for her, yet the challenge takes another shape.  While i think that it could have been taken further – meaning that there was rather quick resolution to it all, at least the struggle was there.

So we’re with this pair for several weeks while they are in Japan and we see that Ronin gains some interesting insight into his master’s mind (care of master’s brother) and at the same time Amery becomes more self aware of what she’s comfortable with in her relationship with Ronin and what that will mean for them in the future.

The curveball of course is that once they get to this shared space, it’s time to meet Grandfather and we know that he’s been set up to be this masterful scary sort of man, and I have a feeling that Amery’s going to have issues with him.  or vice versa.  And that’s where this story takes us.  The proposition that she’s given towards the end is one that i wasn’t necessarily expecting and will be interested to see how it plays out.

We get the heat, passion and romance that Ms. James has brought to us so far and it’s definitely a chemistry that you feel the spark from – just by reading.  There’s clearly a lot of research that’s gone into the subject since i continue to learn more and more about martial arts skill and rope work – and that’s what makes this series even better to read.

So…i guess we’ll have to wait a few more months for book 3 in the series to come out – although i don’t know that it’s focused on these 2 anymore – i feel like it will be on the others that we’ve met on the journey – with a bit of sub-text towards this pair.  Enjoy!

Review: Shopping for a Billionaire (#4) by Julia Kent

Title:  Shopping for a Billionaire

Publisher/Year: Julia Kent 8/15/14
Length: 146
Series: Shopping for a Billionaire #4

A confusing fight, a garbage-covered car, and a mom who shares her past as a stripper all drive Shannon to the edge of madness. When her big shot at mystery shopping luxury properties leads to another crazy toilet incident, it’s Declan to the rescue…but can they take the “plunge”? The Shopping series from New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent reaches its conclusion with heart, heat, and hilarity.

My Thoughts

Ahhh, we finally make it to the conclusion of all this craziness that surrounds Shannon’s life.  Like the summary says, it’s a luxury shop that really brings things to a close, but really, we have to remember where we left off in book 3.  The relationship between Shannon and Declan couldn’t be in worse shape, nothing makes sense, and everything seems to be going downhill.  Shannon can’t get the answers that she wants, and is left to wallow.  You know though that given Shannon’s personality so far, that her wallowing will be quite amusing anyway.

Where this final installment takes us is on a fact finding mission and we slowly learn more about the McCormick’s back story than we ever knew before.  Even how it all relates to James and Maria (the parents) and well, that’s quite a story in itself.  In learning about what happened 10+ years ago, we finally get a bit more depth to the characters that we haven’t had to this point and that’s something that i’m really pleased that our author took us to.

Like the overview says as well, we get to the luxury shop and this is where things get to be even more amusing.  It’s all been wonderfully coordinated and mastermind by Amanda- to get everyone to open their eyes and to be in the same place at once, and well that couldn’t have led to a better conclusion.  We see that people are forced to have conversations that they weren’t ready to have, and that means that we’ll see walls come down, and maybe not all of them good.

Where we are left is with someone losing their job, people becoming more receptive to one another, and the question being posed of what’s to come for everyone.  I think that the way that this story ends isn’t necessarily realistic, but still does the story justice since it’s interesting how it’s all been intertwined.

Given the pace of this story though, i don’t know that i would have stayed interested had i had to wait for each of the installments to come out – so i’m glad that i didn’t pick up this series until they were all published.  It’s entertaining for sure, but i think that it serves a better purpose of being entertaining reading as one longer book v. the 4 installments.  Otherwise though, i think that it’s a great read when you just want something enjoyable and light to pass your time.  Enjoy the final installment of the Shannon/Declan journey!

Review: Shopping for a Billionaire (#3) by Julia Kent

Title:  Shopping for a Billionaire

Series: Shopping for a Billionaire #3

I don’t turn every date into a medical emergency, but when I do, I nearly castrate my man…

Shannon and Declan’s first real date ends with an ambulance trip and yet another test of their madcap relationship. Ex-boyfriend Steve insists on dinner with Shannon while Declan is overseas on business, but a surprise return leads to plenty of romance as Declan whisks her away for a ride over Boston (in more ways than one…).

Just as life and love look good, a misunderstanding takes on a sinister tone as a conspiracy brews to keep them apart. Julia Kent’s hilarious Shopping series continues.

My Thoughts

The story is now beginning to get juicy and so much more complicated.  We see that the romance continues to grow, and feelings are really beginning to develop in depth between these characters.  The downside to the speed of things though is that we know that there’s a past that Declan won’t open up about and it seems like Shannon just won’t push it right now.  The way that Shannon’s family opens their arms up to Declan though shows us that maybe there’s hope.

Anyhow, seems like Steve is really trying to get in the way of things for Shannon and in this 3rd installment we see things come to a head.  Fortunately for Shannon (although i’m still trying to understand how it was possible given that he was in NZ and now he’s with her in Boston), Declan shows up just as Shannon’s getting her anger out on Steve and well, that works out to her benefit.

The piece of the journey here though shows us that the relationship between these 2 is really growing, (declan and Shannon that is) and that the family really opens their arms to him.  His family is another situation though and one that Shannon’s not surprised that she’s found herself in, and partially doesn’t care that she’s in.

It’s not until the tail end of this installment that we see the waves really begin to form.  All as a result of a mystery shop that Shannon has to do and some of the cast of characters who are present to see it all go down.  The question that we’re left at in the end is what will it mean for Shannon’s happiness and will it mean that Declan’s out of her life for good in a romantic sort of way.  I feel like the odds are stacked against him, but given that he doesn’t really seem to care what others think, i’m game to believe the best.  I do have a sense though that maybe this will be the one time that he’s actually upset about something and Shannon will have an uphill battle.  I guess that will make for a good finale if that’s the case.  Anyhow, 1 more book to the series and we’ll see who nets out on top.  Enjoy!

Review: Shopping for a Billionaire (#2) by Julia Kent

Title:  Shopping for a Billionaire
Author: Julia Kent
Publisher/Year: Julia Kent 6/1/14
Length: 85
Series: Shopping for a Billionaire #2

New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent continues her Shopping for a Billionaire series as mystery shopper Shannon and (near) billionaire Declan explore a relationship (and each other).

The pair deal with a jealous ex-boyfriend, a new perk at work that makes Shannon rethink her job, and a cat that offers up quite a present when Declan takes Shannon out for their first non-business date.

My Thoughts

the saga continues with the new budding attraction – and where we thought that things were going awry before, they are taken to a new level in book 2. We see that Declan and Shannon really do share an attraction to one another, one that they begin to act on, and if that weren’t enough, there are many many forces trying to come between them.

Enter Steve, Shannon’s ex who’s a social climber – dumping Shannon since she wasn’t elite enough for him, and when he walks into the same restaurant that Declan and Shannon are at, he decides that he wants her back.  Granted i don’t know what the motivation is there but it’s funny to see the lengths that he’s going to in order to get her attention.  Texting Shannon, her sister, friends and even parents just to get her to agree to see him.

Then there’s Shannon’s mom – she’s amusing for any number of reasons.  She’s the embarrassing mom that no one wants to have – she says and does things that should never be done, and even in front of Declan which would be the end of any real relationship i’d imagine.  Not in a book though.

And then there’s the amusement from work – nothing is as it seems – and that allows for interesting situations to pop up, especially when Declan swings by.

So, as all those things happen, we get to know Declan and Shannon a bit more – we see that they have shared interests, yet there are hints at their back stories as well.  we know that they each have flaws, and that they probably even have their own pain that may come out (or not) and that’s what makes you want to root for them even more.

The journey continues – still keeping it light with this novella series and i guess it’s onto book 3 to see what Declan will do next to make Shannon swoon, what Steve will do to try to win Shannon back and what embarrassment the mom can bring to the table.  Enjoy!

When mystery shopper Shannon Jacoby meets billionaire Declan McCormick with her hand down a toilet in the men’s room of one of his stores, it’s love at first flush in this hilarious new romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent.

My Thoughts

I have to say that i was really in the mood for a bit of chick lit which is exactly what we get here.  It’s funny – i’ve become really accustomed to Billionaire titled series to be in line with heavier erotica or BDSM, but it was nice to have something light and entertaining here.

So as the very short synopsis tells us, we meet our leading lady Shannon when she’s filling in on mystery shops for the company that she works for.  While she’s in her final location for the day, in walks a sexy man, dressed to the nines and she realizes that she’s in such a mismatched state that things couldn’t get any worse.  or could they?  It’s when she has to go into the mens room to finish the shop that things go wrong.  Said hot man comes into the bathroom when she’s in there and if that weren’t bad enough, she drops her phone in the toilet, loses her balance, he saves her and she has to find some way to get out of that embarrassing situation.

If only that’s as bad as it gets for her.  She continues her day into work and finds that they are pitching a huge account, goes into that meeting only to find said hot guy as one of the clients.  He calls her toilet girl, her friend calls him ‘hot guy’ and well, you can only imagine what happens from there.

The interesting thing here is that some how there’s an attraction there – and these 2 – hot guy Declan and messy girl Shannon find that they have a shared chemistry and see what comes of it.  That’s where this intro of the series leaves us off.  It’ll be interesting to see where things go both personally and professionally and i’m sure that it will be anything but dull with these folks.

Celeste Connor swore that she’d never be a victim again. After the hell of her abusive ex, the last thing she needs is to be under another man’s thumb. But when she catches the eye of fiercely dominant Nartan Lupan at her best friend’s wedding, Celeste finds herself drawn into a glittering world of wealth and power that has her body aching and her mind reeling.

Nartan is a filthy rich businessman who works hard, plays harder, and doesn’t take no for an answer-and he wants Celeste with a hunger he’s never before felt. He’ll do whatever it takes to have her. But Nartan didn’t expect that he’d want still more…

My Thoughts

To be honest, it took me quite a long time to get through the first 2 chapters and i was about ready to give up on it, but since i was flying today and didn’t download anything else to my iPad, i was left with nothing else to read for a 3 hour flight and figured that i’d give this one another go.  I’m glad that i did since i think that i really just needed to get over the hump of the initial bit of the story to get into what was really going on.

i have to say though that the overview doesn’t really do the story justice – since i think that there’s a bit of an inconsistency – Celeste doesn’t actually care for the glitter and power from wealth anymore since that’s what she had with her Ex and even though Nartan has all that, it’s not what draws her to him or even keeps her there.  She even relates his home and his businesses more to the homey feel than the glitz and expense of it all.

Anyhow, these 2 are thrown together at the wedding of their respective best friends and their chemistry pops off the pages immediately.  The fact that they are besties with associated friends makes things a bit dicey since they worry about what being together would do….although that’s the least of their problems.

It’s only after a series of events at Tarack and Sabra’s wedding that these 2 come together and combust that they go back to the real world and Nartan decides to lay his claim.

There’s a lot of angst in this story since we know that Celeste comes from a tainted past – not only the way she grew up but because she’s got a psycho and vindictive ex that’s in prison to deal with.  Nartan also has worked his life to make something of himself, yet he’s doing it solo now and while being a bachelor is what he’s good at, he wonders if he needs more.  The question though is whether this is the right time for them and what each will have to sacrifice to be together.

For most of the story, it’s really the heated dynamic between these 2 that we learn about and we see evolve.  They are trying to learn more about one another both physically and psychologically, and it’s not an easy journey.  It’s only the latter third of the story that we see others coming into play and putting lives in danger.  This bit here is what makes for a great story – you get to see who’s strongest in life and what ties bind and keep people together.  I feel like this layered on with some supporting characters who bring complications really makes the roll towards the end rather page turning.

Where we are left off in the end – well, let’s just say that not everyone that we’ve come to have a relationship with survives (gasp!) and there are relationships that form tight bonds and others that break apart for good.  I think that we get closure where it’s needed, and other bits are left open ended in a way that really make us wonder if there’s going to be more to the series or if this is truly a standalone.  So all that being said, thank you Netgalley for the ARC and i hope that you guys get a chance to read it in 2015 when it comes out.  Enjoy!

When times get tough, how bad does a good girl have to get?Sienna Blakely is bright, articulate, underemployed and forced to rely on the one asset she vowed never to use – her looks. With bills piling up, Sienna signs a contract with Luxxor Escort Services. A contract that strictly forbids any sexual contact with clients… And then she’s assigned to companion Jason Sloan. Just meeting the man causes a full-body jolt. Arrogant, powerful, and sexy, he’s trouble. And he can see through the facade she’s erected, right down to the intelligent and sensual woman underneath. He challenges her wits, and he challenges the rules.

My Thoughts

I love sweet short stories like this one since they are easy to read, often packed with a lot of action, and some great romance between just a handful of characters.  In this story we get to meet Sienna who’s got a pedigree’d background, yet she’s trying to make it on her own which isn’t panning out as she’s planned.  It’s through a chance encounter at a fundraiser (that she would have been attending in another time)  that sparks fly with Jason Sloan, an ex hockey player turned business man that is the talk of the town when he shows up to functions.

The chemistry between these 2 like i said before, is palpable.  They are clearly drawn to each other at the detriment of sanity and the well being of their livelihoods and this is where the story really takes shape.  The question that begs to be answered is whether or not they will be able to find a middle ground with their attraction while Jason finalizes a big deal and Sienna tries to make some money.  It’s tough for sure, and knowing that our leading man has to be controlling, it’s kind of entertaining to watch.

As much as i enjoyed this story – there’s still so much that was introduced that was never quite answered.

1) what’s the deal with Sienna’s parents?  what will become of them now that their situation has changed and i feel like Sienna never got to confront them about it

2) what’s going to happen with Jason’s arrest and the detective and WHY was Nina so riled up by him?  I’m curious if it was fear or attraction – since we know that Nina’s getting tired of being single

3) what’s next for Sienna professionally?  we see that her career path is taking a turn, yet i’m curious on how it’s going to pan out.

So, all in all a pretty enjoyable read – and i’m curious if we’ll ever get to dive in deeper.  Regardless, we get heat, passion, a nice romance and some naughtiness that will hold you over through this quick read.  enjoy!
