ARC Review: At His Service (Part 1) by Suzanne Rock

Title:  At His Service
Author: Suzanne Rock
Publisher/Year: St. Martin’s Press 2/3/15
Length: 65
Series: At His Service #1

Leo Perconti’s  life is spinning out of control. As head of his family’s hotel conglomerate, it’s his job to save his family from bankruptcy. At the center of his turmoil is Karin Norell, a quiet, alluring housekeeping manager who compliments his dominating personality and lets him feel in control once more.

As Karin explores her passion her feelings for Leo deepen. Unfortunately, Karin and Leo come from  different worlds, and when the two worlds collide, the cost can be devastating. As the service staff at The Palazzo rise up against the Perconti family, both Leo and Karin are faced with losing what each of them holds most dear. Together they must learn that true power comes from vulnerability and trust that can only happen when you let your insecurities go.

My Thoughts

Again I have to thank the folks at NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for allowing me early access to this series since it’s got the makings to be something great.  What we have here isn’t the typical story of the Billionaire Businessman and the girl who’s not quite as successful, we have the businessman alright, but i think that we’re only now just starting to understand what’s going on with him under his suit.  Leo – ‘The General’ as he’s nicknamed has a reputation of being the brother in the hotel family that’s the toughest on everyone and who makes the toughest decisions.  He’s also been named most eligible bachelor so many times since he’s yet to settle down after having some less than savory relationships in the past.

Our leading lady – Karin works at the hotel (interns actually) and while it’s not exactly what she thought she’d be doing in her life, it’s the next step in the direction of her career.  It’s when she’s forced to clean up the penthouse in expectation for Leo’s arrival that things go awry.

Where we go in this first novella installment of the series is a fast paced beginning of what can be a stormy relationship.  While these 2 aren’t really suited for one another – they are opposites, that usually makes for some hot passion and that’s what we start to get.  Karin’s not naive really – but she’s much less experienced than Leo and that means that he’s definitely got control.  Karin’s not really looking to ruin her professional life and that’s where we end things in this story – she draws a line and he’s willing to give her maybe a second or 2 until he goes after her.

What i find to be the most intriguing bit of all this is that there’s clearly a lot of heat between these 2, Leo’s very steamy and direct in what he wants – but what is only hinted at is what sparks my interest.  There’s a tease that Leo’s a dom – and maybe that’s what he’s been trying to keep from the tabloids.  But…the idea that he IS a dom and that he wants Karin to be his sub is something that i’d like to see if i’m right on.  And then if i AM right – i can’t wait to see where he takes things and what it does to liberate Karin.  so….onto part 2 since i’ve been lucky to get that as well – and i’ll be back shortly i’m sure with my thoughts there.

Review: Eden (Eden Trilogy #1) by Georgia Le Carre

Title:  Eden
Author: Georgia Le Carre
Publisher/Year: Georgia Le Carre 1/31/15
Length: 158
Series: Eden Trilogy #1

Haunted by memories of her brother’s death, and searching for answers, Lily Hart embarks on a career that takes her into a seedy underworld, where she is exposed to wealth, greed, lust and the reign of gorgeous, powerful, and dangerous men–one man in particular wreaks havoc on her emotions.

At thirty Jake Eden has everything: looks to die for, money, power and a never-ending line of twisted, fucked-up women willing to do anything to get with him. Love? Love was for pussies…until a woman with the stage name of ‘Jewel’ arrives on the scene. She alone is different from all the others.

Oozing pure, unadulterated sex, strong, intelligent and independent, she is everything he should stay away from, but she makes him itch to tame her and keep her for himself.

Her lure is addictive and undeniable and soon he is hooked.

But when the line between betrayal and loyalty is put to test…

Will love be stronger than revenge?

My Thoughts

Being a devoted Georgia Le Carre fan, i went into this story not reading the summary since i know that blindly i’ll love whatever it is that she puts out.  This introduction to the trilogy doesn’t let me down, and i’ll tell you why.

We quickly meet Lily (or Jewel) in the prologue where she’s discovered her brother’s body – dead and cold from an apparent drug overdose.  We are then fast forwarded to where we are in present day – she’s in a van going to auditions to be a stripper in a high end upscale club in London.  The fact that we’re not clued into what has gotten her to this point aside from the fact that she’s been trained to do it, well that’s makes things even more exciting.

That and the fact that as soon as she steps out of the van at the first club – Eden, she feels the presence of power – that being Jake – the owner and alleged gangster as well.  This is where things get HOT.  She flubs her audition, yet some how Jake is so drawn to her that he gives her a job anyway, and their paths cross for good.

Throughout the story we know that Lily is haunted by her past, and yet we don’t know exactly why.  the story that she gives is that she’s a runaway- and there are things that support that, yet we don’t know what was so bad to make her run.  We also see hints and glimpses at there being more to her background yet nothing concrete to go on.  She’s great at picking up details around her and descriptions of people – like a cop might, but there’s nothing to give us that line of thought.

Then there’s Jake – he’s dark and dangerous – we know that his past is dirty given that his father was murdered and everyone knows that he’s been in less than legal businesses.  Still – it’s something that really leaps off the page in the sense of passion, heat and something that you know you shouldn’t get involved in.

Once Lily and Jake decide that they are compelled to follow their chemistry, the story gets hot.  The way that Ms. LeCarre writes their scenes is passionate for sure without being dirty.  I”m used to getting the ‘naughty’ bits of BDSM or hard core erotica, but there’s something dark here underneath and that’s even more intriguing.  The other piece is that we’re really starting to see the back story on Jake and a deeper character development that makes you want him even more.  I know that i do.

So…what happens in the last few pages – well that’s something that i was NOT expecting at all and i’m really upset that i don’t have book 2 yet.  Not only do we know that Jake’s mom has had a premonition that’s been validated, but we now know that there’s something else going on with Lily – even if we don’t know what it is.  So the question begs to be asked who’s going to live who’s going to die and how are all the secrets going to come out?

Excerpt 1

She flicks her head flirtatiously like an animal in heat and deliberately presents her buttocks to me. I see her sex clothed in satin and puffed out between her spread thighs. I know exactly what she is doing. She is showing me the sweet wet heat at the center of her. The urge to reach out and touch. Fuck!

She moves her hips from side to side, slowly, teasing, provoking. Then she pushes back until she is inches away from my face. I can smell the heady scent of her arousal. It has hidden itself within the noisy smells of cheap perfume, sweat, sex, and seedy thoughts. It flowers in my face.

Like a wolf scenting the air, I inhale in quick bursts. She pulls back and my nose moves forward, following the intoxicating trail of her scent. Her hands skim lightly over her ribs and linger over the tops of her breasts, the skin satiny. She cups her breasts. I stare at her utterly riveted. She hooks one leg over the chair’s back and in one deft, smooth movement, sits down on the edge of the seat.

Keeping her body arched and her legs straight, she opens her thighs so her long, long legs make a fabulous V. The position is obscene and bewitching. She is good enough to eat.

I stare at the wet patch hungrily.

She holds the pose.

I raise my eyes up to hers. ‘How much to push the material aside?’

Excerpt 2

Nooooooo,’ I howl, but there is gravel or grave soil in my throat, and nothing other than an ugly, dried-up rasp travels out of my mouth. My head shakes back and forth like a mindless wind-up toy. Even my body is denying the horror before my eyes. Without warning my knees buckle under me, and I find myself in a heap at the doorway of his flat. Frantically, I begin to crawl toward him, screaming, babbling.

I can’t lose him! Not him! Oh God, not him. Please. Not him.

Two feet away from his body and it occurs to me: this is just a nightmare. Of course it is. It has to be. Any moment now I’ll wake up. And the first thing I’ll do? Call him and tell him how much I have missed him, how much I love him.

I feel the floor scrape against my bare knees. It isn’t a nightmare. It is real.

We haven’t spoken for two weeks. I had exams and when I called his mobile, it went straight to voicemail… Shit excuse. I should have called again, I should have emailed. Why hadn’t I? I should have known.

I hunker down over his body, my pose ungainly, heavy, that of a suffering beast. My buttocks hit the floor and my legs fold up and cross under me. I press my fingers against my open mouth and stare at him. His lips and fingers are blue and the rest of him is ashen and still. He can’t be dead.

It can’t be real!

The stillness of a dead body is impossible to describe. And yet when you see it you refuse to believe it. You always think it is a trick. A mistake. A ploy… But a needle is embedded in his arm, which is blackened with the skin stretched and unreal. It looks as if it belongs elsewhere. That is not my brother’s arm. I know my brother’s arm as intimately as I know my own.

My breathing is shallow and trembling. I suck a huge burst of air into my lungs and pull the offending needle out. My stomach twists. It should never have entered his body in the first place. I throw the syringe away. It hits something and rolls on the wooden floor. It also leaves a tiny hole in my brother’s flesh that does not bleed. I swallow hard. My hands are shaking badly.

That means he didn’t suffer, a voice whispers in my head. He did not even have time to pull it out before he was gone to wherever it is he went to.

Oh God! He is nineteen. He can’t be gone.

CPR. I should give him CPR. There must be something I can still do. I grab his shoulders and try to drag him across my thighs, but his body is so heavy, so cold, and so stiff and foreign that my shocked hands fly away from his shoulders as if they have touched fire. I gaze at him as he lies unmoving. The blood that ran without rest during his short life has stilled within his veins. Everything has cooled and hardened. He is like a piece of wood.

With a sob of intolerable, indescribable anguish I reach for him and with every ounce of my might I drag his cold, dead weight toward me and lift it onto my lap. I touch the soft brown hair that flops across his forehead and it feels different. His scalp has hardened and changed the lie of his hair. I caress his hair, his face, his hands. Holding his head pressed against my stomach I close my eyes and begin to rock him the way a mother would comfort her distressed baby.

But there is no comfort—his head is a hard, unfamiliar weight and the action produces an odd thud made by his stiff hand repeatedly hitting the floor. I stop. In a daze I look down on his face.

His mouth is open, the tongue—a strange, dull color—is pushed against his teeth. Without the healthy sheen of saliva it looks gross. I try to close his mouth, but it is locked open. His eyes are not fully shut and through the slits I see the whites. I try to lift a lid to see once more the beautiful blue eyes I have known all my life.

If I could at least see that.

But his eyelids are glued shut. They will not budge. Tremors shoot through my hand as I still the gruesome desire to force his eyelid open. When we were young we used to lick the salt from each other’s skin. I am suddenly filled with the strange desire to lick his skin.

I put one hand under his head and the other under his neck and I put his head on the floor. Then I scoot backwards until I am on my hands and knees and my face is hovering inches away from his. My head moves downwards. My tongue comes out. Inches away a voice in my head urgently cries, ‘No.’

I stop and listen to peculiar silence around us. It is quieter than falling snow. On the table top I notice his fingerprints in the light layer of dust, and then something weird happens. For a second I clearly perceive myself not from inside my body but from outside, crouched over my dead brother, more animal than human. I recoil from the sight. And then the moment is gone and I lower my head and lick the last salt on the corpse’s skin.

It is the beginning of my descent into an unfamiliar territory. A place you might call madness.

I’m afraid my stay was excruciatingly long.

ARC Review: Fever (Club Inferno #3) by Jamie K Schmidt

Title:  Fever
Author: Jamie K Schmidt
Publisher/Year: Random House 4/17/15
Length: 167
Series: Club Inferno #3

Deep in the shadows of her exclusive fashion resort, Couture, Colleen Bryant presides over a much more intimate world: Club Inferno. The successful businesswoman and sex instructor has built an empire that caters to the BDSM elite, but now she finds herself longing for something a bit more ordinary: a man to love. She’s not sure how to find someone who will accept what she does for a living—or the kinks that drive her wild—until her old flame, ex-pro football player Chase Fairwood, comes back in her life.

There’s no woman as hot, sexy, or exciting as Colleen—and Chase knows it. He also knows he’s man enough to play her games, and to give as good as he gets. His return to Club Inferno reignites Colleen’s scorching demands, along with a new determination to test his resolve. Soon he’s competing against a rival Dom to brand Colleen as his own. But Chase has a secret weapon: the burning desire to offer his body—and his heart—in sweet surrender.

My Thoughts

I should start off and say thank you to the folks at NetGalley for allowing me to get the early read of this 3rd installment to the Club Inferno series.  I think that it’s fair to say that we all wanted to see what was up for Colleen – Mallory’s sister and the owner and Head Domme of Couture.  There were teasers throughout the series so far that there was something coming back up again with Chase – the love of her life prior to her husband as well as there being something out there with Dante – one of the other Doms in the club.

So that’s what we get in this story – we really do see that there’s a bit of a triangle going on – not a love triangle per-say but really something that’s adding heat and chemistry and angst into the mix of things.

Colleen is trying to build on her empire – after a bunch of less than amazing deals she’s trying to launch her line with Anya – at the same time that Max is trying to launch his line and uses Chases star a bit to get things moving. This adds complications to Colleen’s life and if we know nothing else, we know that complications are GREAT in this genre.

The path that we go down is one where Colleen is completely confident in her role within the BDSM world, while Chase is really against it all.  (he had a taste of seeing Colleen in it back in Vegas and ran in the other direction).  While Chase seems to think that he can dabble in it, he’s in for a rude awakening, and Colleen has to learn to adjust in order to keep him from running scared.  All the while, Dante continues to try to push and prod and make his move in the hopes that he can get under Colleen’s skin and achieve what…..i’m not quite sure.

The great thing about this series is that we get an education.  We continue to learn more and more about the BDSM world and about what it is that makes some couples tick.  That’s something that Colleen’s character does well.  The other bit is that we continue to get some HOT sceneing…the passion and chemistry between Colleen and Chase is palpable, as is the chemistry and tension between Colleen and Dante.  There’s something to be said about trying to find the right dynamic and knowing what gets you off, and our author clearly knows how to write to that bit.

So….the journey is one that’s really round about – we find that Chase and Colleen resort to old habits while Dante uses cockiness and self assuredness to get what he wants.  It’s interesting to say the least and it makes you want to keep reading.  So….if you’re not able to get your hands on the ARC, at least it’s only a bit over a month that you have to wait to read it, and it’ll be worth it.  Now i’m just curious if there will be a book 4 and which of our favs will be the lead in that story.  I have my ideas…….Enjoy!

The familiar chatter fills my ears as soon as I step inside, and I grab a juice. As I wait to pay, I absently scan the tables. Wild hair, wilder clothes, outrageous make-up. Your typical college students.

Except the guy sitting alone at a table in a corner. No wild hair or clothes, and yet he snags my gaze, hooks me and reels me in. I study the familiar close-cropped blond hair, the beautiful profile, the powerful shoulders stretching his gray sweater.

My turn comes to pay for my juice, and instead I drop my purse and spill coins everywhere. Laughter ripples around me. Yeah, your typical college student is also easily amused.

Mortified, I glance in Dylan’s direction, but he seems lost in thought. Thank God. I pay and clutch my juice like a shield in front of me as I make my way toward him. After thinking about Sean, Dylan’s presence makes me feel better. Safe. Warm.

So I approach, taking him in. He’s dressed in well-worn jeans and that old sweater he’s had since high school. He needs no expensive suits. With his broad shoulders and trim body, he’s so hot he’d put any male model to shame.

It strikes me how much he’s grown from the boy he was when we dated. Even from the boy he was a year ago, with the purple bangs. It’s like he’s shed all playfulness, all childishness, as if he had to give it up overnight.

Not sure why, but it makes me sad for him.

“Hey,” I say, and sit across from him.

He starts, pushing back from the table, and I frown as I notice the dark bags under his blue eyes, and how thin his handsome face has become. He hasn’t shaved for at least a couple of days, and his jaw is covered in golden stubble.

“Tess,” he whispers, and my breath catches. He never calls me that nowadays. “What do you want?”

“You didn’t show up in biology class,” I say, before I lose my nerve. “And I haven’t talked to you in a while. Is everything okay?”

“Fine,” he mutters.

“You’ve missed many classes already.”

“I never enrolled in that class. Or any class.”

“You never…” My brain stalls. “Then why did you show up on the first day?”

“Because I hoped I could do this,” he snaps, and it’s my turn to flinch. “I’m not enrolled in college. Not anymore.”

“That’s a pity,” I whisper. My chest aches.

He gets up. “Look, I’ve got to go.”

“Yeah.” I nod, finally accepting what Audrey has been telling me all along. “Take care, Dylan.”

His eyes narrow. “You too. What’s this about?”

“This is about me,” I say and unscrew the lid off my juice with shaky hands.

“What do you mean?” His face is pale, the silver ring in his lip glinting dully in the fluorescent lights of the cafeteria.

I force myself to look away. “I mean,” I say softly, “this is goodbye.”

Excerpt from Playing Doctor – “Seize the Doctor”

At the door to her apartment building, they lingered and talked more while holding hands and looking into each other’s eyes. Hunter gently caressed her hand, making small swirling circles with his thumb on the soft pad of her palm. Nikki seemed as aroused as he was, her eyes dilated and her breath coming in short little pants. He very much wanted to kiss her and hoped she would let him. Nikki swayed toward him, and his arm came around to support the small of her back, gently pulling her against his body.

“May I kiss you good night?” he asked in a low, husky voice.

“Mmm, yes,” she replied, melting into him and tilting her face upward.

His heart pounding, Hunter slowly lowered his mouth to meet hers, just the gentlest sweeping touch on her lips. His breath caught in his throat as he stood wanting and needing more. Deepening the kiss, Hunter crushed her tightly to him and stroked her lips with his tongue. He was burning with desire and wondered for perhaps the hundredth time this evening if she was wearing those so-sexy underthings. Oh, how he would love to see them on her, to slowly peel them off her body and explore her with his tongue. Thinking that he was getting dangerously carried away, he started to pull back, but then Nikki parted her lips and welcomed his kiss into her mouth. Hunter pulled her even more tightly to him.

He could taste Nikki now, the subtle flavor of her mixed with the tangy beer they had consumed with dinner. The press of her breasts to his chest, her peaked nipples pressing into him, sent a shooting thrill throughout his body. His hand ached to reach up and caress her there. Before he got carried away, Hunter started to release her, but Nikki reached up and put her arms around his neck, pulling him back to her and deepening the kiss.

It felt so good, so hot. Hunter reveled in the sensations and the awareness that this gorgeous woman wanted him as much as he wanted her. His bulging erection pressed into her belly, and he could barely stop himself from rubbing it against her. Instead, he ended the kiss and stepped firmly away, feeling unstable, as if he might lose control and yank her back, and then nothing would be able to stop him from finishing what they were starting. He needed to get away quickly. He didn’t want to ruin things now.

“This was a terrific evening. Thank you,” Hunter said, turning away quickly, worried that Nikki might try to restart the kiss. Very much wanting her to do just that.

“I enjoyed it too. Bye,” Nikki responded, still leaning toward him.

“Thank you again. I’ll call you soon,” he said as he resolutely walked away.

Hunter felt young and carefree…

Review: Longing (Club Inferno #2) by Jamie K Schmidt

Title:  Longing
Author: Jamie K Schmidt
Publisher/Year: Random House 9/2/14
Length: 192
Series: Club Inferno #2

Reeling from a disastrous love affair, model and budding fashion designer Anya Litton needs a temporary refuge, a place to lick her wounds and plan her next career move. At Club Inferno, where seductively chic men and women indulge their most intimate fantasies, she can mix business with unimaginable pleasure. Anya quickly connects with club Dom Clint Reyes, who unleashes Anya’s deepest longings over nights of burning passion.

Clint is a master at taking submissives to the heights of pleasure in Club Inferno’s opulent private dungeons. But it’s Anya who has Clint begging for more when the woman of his dreams becomes his eager partner in exploring the limits of desire. As their relationship ignites into an erotic contest of wills—and a jealous rival plots against them both—Clint prepares to fight for a future with Anya. In this complicated dance, the wrong move could end it all . . . and taking control means total surrender.

My Thoughts

I’m really enjoying this series and how our author has set up each of the plot lines and character back stories.  I think that there’s something to be said about tryign to find the proper balance in real life and BDSM and that’s something that’s being attempted here.

We first met Anya in the intro to the series, when Mallory was first at Couture and ‘needed a friend’ of sorts.  It’s now time for Anya to get her own story and i think that i’m really pleased that it’s in book 2 instead of further down into the series.  So as the overview hints at, Anya is at Couture not only to get over her last ‘love’ with Cesare – an Italian Count who dumped her because his mother said that she was ‘too common and fat’ to be a countess – and to add insult to injury, not only did Cesare marry the woman that his mamma wanted him to, but he also took Anya’s #1 enemy as a mistress – so things seem to be spiraling out of control there.

So fast forward to Couture – where we see Anya coming into her own – she’s getting further along with her fashion career – designing a line with Colleen (the owner) as well trying to get her own career back in line both for modeling and acting. What makes things even sweeter though is the eye candy at Couture/Club inferno.  She’s got her eye on Clint – who’s one of the doms there and well, this story takes us on the journey of understanding whether it’s a mutual attraction and what will come of it.

The interesting thing here is that Anya is cleraly very vanilla and Clint is not – so whether the 2 will mesh is something to be seen.  The other bit is that Anya has a very bad opinion of herself.  That’s not to say that she doesn’t love her curves, but she’s been beaten down so many times by men, the industry and now her agent (as she’s up for a part that she’s been told that she needs to lose a lot of weight for) – things just seem like they couldn’t be going worse for her.

Throughout this story, we see Anya grow – she’s finding her sexuality again, and Clints forcing her to test her limits.  I think that what i find to be the best about this story is that there’s a really strong bond that’s developed between them.  I’m a sucker for good banter and a connection between characters to make things even more worthwhile when they go well, and that’s what we get here.  the other bit too is that Clint’s not perfect.  He’s got his own struggle to make something of himself as well as trying to get people to see him for more than what he’s putting out there.  That’s what Anya does for him.

And of course, we have the requisite passion, heat and chemistry bursting through the entire story.  There’s so much heat and chemistry here even if Clint is dark and dangerous and Anya is vanilla.  I think that’s one of the hardest things to write into a story, yet if it’s done right – one of the most successful.  The scenes that our author sets up are hot, and really detailed and that’s a great thing to read.  so….i’m off to read book 3 which i’ve gotten as an ARC from Netgalley and for all of you, pick this one up and Enjoy!

Review: Falling for Emma (Bistro La Boheme #0.5) by Alix Nichols

Title:  Falling for Emma
Author: Alix Nichols
Publisher/Year: CreateSpace Publishing 1/15/15
Length: 77
Series: Bistro La Boheme #0.5

Rising star of French soft rock Cyril falls for Laura–the charming groupie who waltzed into his life one sweet summer afternoon.
Their story could have been pretty straightforward except…
He’s blind.
And she isn’t who she claims to be.

My Thoughts

What a sweet story – i know that there’s a larger series here that i have been slow to really sort that one out.  So at least, because i was able to get my hands on this ARC, i got my intro to what i think will be a sweet series.  In this short novella, we have the continuation i’m guessing of a story surrounding Cyril – who was a rock star in his own right and unfortunately found himself on the bad side of a car accident that left him disfigured (scars) as well as blind and deaf.  He was able to get hearing aids implated so that he can hear and potentially resume his music career, but the blindness is something that’s far more uncertain.

In addition to dealing with what his life has become, he’s also dealing with the fact that the girl that he had been in a relationship wtih for ages – decided that she wasn’t made for ‘babysitting’ and didn’t want to be with him anymore because of how he looked and what his limitations would be.  So, this is what introduces us to the downward spiral that Cyril’s in.  He’s able to cope by finding a routine and there’s plenty of technology out there to help him be ‘normal’ – but you know how it is – for a rock star to go into obscurity.

Enter Laura (or Emma) – who ironically is Gerrie’s sister (Gerrie being Cyril’s ex) – and she’s had a crush on him since day one.  She feels like this is her opportunity to really get to know him and see if there’s somethign there – so she puts on this persona of ‘Laura’ in the hopes of being able to get close to him and for Cyril to maybe fall in love with her.

The quick journey that we take here is a nice one.  We see that Emma’s intentions are from the heart and that she really wants to be with Cyril because of who he is – not what he is.  This brings on a level of connection and romance that they both deserve.  It’s only when Gerrie comes around one day – after Cyril and Emma have really bonded that things get dicey.  Bringing up the question of whether Gerrie’s motives are clear and true, and whether Cyril’s able to get past what Emma’s done in lying to him.

I guess what this means for me is that i have to find the rest of the series and read it since i’m really intrigued.  Personally i don’t know if the series really revolves around, but if it’s anything like the novella here, then i think that it’ll be worth the read.  the characters are sweet – they are imperfect and they have honest emotions towards one another and that’s what makes for a GREAT read.  so…Enjoy!

Review: Heat (Club Inferno #1) by Jamie K Schmidt

Title:  Heat
Author: Jamie K Schmidt
Publisher/Year: Random House 6/3/14
Length: 230
Series: Club Inferno #1

On the run from her abusive fiancé, ER doctor Mallory Bryant arrives at her sister’s Connecticut resort desperate for a place to restore balance to her life. But Club Inferno is more than a haven for the rich and fashionable. Beneath its elegant facade is an erotic playground where dominants and submissives play out their fantasies. At first, Mallory is wary of Max Spencer, the martial arts trainer acting as her bodyguard—until he introduces her to passion so intense she wants nothing more than to surrender to his touch.

As one of Club Inferno’s most skilled doms, Max enjoys taking Mallory to the limits of pleasure. It’s a dangerous proposition, and as their sensual games draw them into a relationship beyond the boundaries of pupil and master, Max starts spiraling out of control. But when Mallory’s violent past catches up with her, Max knows what he must do: draw her closer than ever before, even if it means risking a surrender of his own.

My Thoughts

I’ve never heard of this author before and this series really hadn’t been on my radar before, but i’m glad that i came across it.  What we have here may have been teased to be like FSOG but i don’t know that i’d really put it in the same genre – not really.  We have a story about a budding romance, one that has elements of BDSM but really not too much into the lifestyle for these 2, but a lot of other side bits that are quite interesting.

As we know, Mallory is on the run from her ex-fiance – a lawyer who’s been a bit abusive and who’s addicted to drugs and tried to get her into them.  That’s a dealbreaker for her, so she’s left him and has been hiding out for a month or so, trying to sort out next steps.  This lands her at her sister Colleen’s resort in CT, one that touts itself as a fashion retreat to the public, but also has a darker more erotic side to members who pass snuff.  It’s on that other side that Mallory meets Max, one of the instructors – and someone who brings her back to life.

Throughout this story we get a ‘coming of age’ in a sense for Mallory – she begins to heal from the mess that was her relationship and find out that there’s more to her own sexuality that Max is able to draw out and make her feel good.  Of course – it’s never that easy since Colleen has warned them off one another, and it’s hard to stay away from what you want.

If that weren’t enough, there’s the fear that Mallory’s ex is going to turn up – and that when David does, things are going to get bad.  It’s when David’s sister happens across the fashion side of the retreat and sees Mallory that we find out how bad it can get.  We learn that David’s been spinning lies, and at that point, Mallory has to return to her life as a doctor, and there’s the continued fear that it’s going to continue to get complicated.  which it does.

Death, Guns, more drugs and the fear of who’s going to end up ok takes us through the latter 3rd of the book.  While i’m not surprised about how things turn out – i’m surprised that the build up was so much for what we actually get.  The one thing that i wish that we had more of was scening.  There are hints at what they can all do – and what they do do – but we don’t see too much of it.  When a place is touted as ‘Club Inferno’ and that there are experiences doms present, personally i’ve come to expect some great BDSM action – more lessons and the sort.  Instead we do get instruction, but it seems more mainstream.  Regardless, it’s still a nice bit that takes us through the story.

So….we know that this was the first intro to the series and i’m looking forward to see what comes next.  There are so many folks that we’ve met in this first one that i know that we’ll have plenty of characters to learn more about – and i hope that we get to see colleen happy.  Enjoy!

Blog Tour: The Prince & The Raven – by Sylvain Reynard

Prince (2)

In the distance, the Prince could hear voices and muffled sounds.

He approached silently, almost floating across the floor.

Desperate groans and the rustling of fabric filled his ears, along with the twin sounds of rapidly beating hearts. He could smell their scents, the aromas heightened due to their sexual arousal.

He growled in reaction.

The corridor was shrouded in darkness but the Prince could see that the professor had his wife up against a window between two statues, her legs wrapped around his waist.

Her voice was breathy as she spoke, but the Prince tuned out her words, moving closer so he could catch a glimpse of her lovely face.

At the sight of it, flushed with passion, his old heart quickened and he felt the stirrings of arousal.

It was not his custom to observe rather than participate. But on this occasion, he decided to make an exception. Careful to remain in the darkness, he moved to the wall opposite the couple.

The woman squirmed in her lover’s arms, her high heels catching on his tuxedo jacket. Her fingers flew to his neck, undoing his bow tie and tossing it carelessly to the floor.

She unbuttoned his shirt, and her mouth moved to his chest, as murmurs of pleasure escaped his lips.

The Prince felt more than desire as he watched the woman’s eager movements. He caught a glimpse of her exquisite mouth and the toss of her long hair that would no doubt feel like silk between his fingers.

She lifted her head to smile at the man who held her close and he could see love in her eyes.
