Overview

Haunted by memories of her brother’s death, and searching for answers, Lily Hart embarks on a career that takes her into a seedy underworld, where she is exposed to wealth, greed, lust and the reign of gorgeous, powerful, and dangerous men–one man in particular wreaks havoc on her emotions.

At thirty Jake Eden has everything: looks to die for, money, power and a never-ending line of twisted, fucked-up women willing to do anything to get with him. Love? Love was for pussies…until a woman with the stage name of ‘Jewel’ arrives on the scene. She alone is different from all the others.

Oozing pure, unadulterated sex, strong, intelligent and independent, she is everything he should stay away from, but she makes him itch to tame her and keep her for himself.

Her lure is addictive and undeniable and soon he is hooked.

But when the line between betrayal and loyalty is put to test…

Will love be stronger than revenge?

My Thoughts

Being a devoted Georgia Le Carre fan, i went into this story not reading the summary since i know that blindly i’ll love whatever it is that she puts out.  This introduction to the trilogy doesn’t let me down, and i’ll tell you why.

We quickly meet Lily (or Jewel) in the prologue where she’s discovered her brother’s body – dead and cold from an apparent drug overdose.  We are then fast forwarded to where we are in present day – she’s in a van going to auditions to be a stripper in a high end upscale club in London.  The fact that we’re not clued into what has gotten her to this point aside from the fact that she’s been trained to do it, well that’s makes things even more exciting.

That and the fact that as soon as she steps out of the van at the first club – Eden, she feels the presence of power – that being Jake – the owner and alleged gangster as well.  This is where things get HOT.  She flubs her audition, yet some how Jake is so drawn to her that he gives her a job anyway, and their paths cross for good.

Throughout the story we know that Lily is haunted by her past, and yet we don’t know exactly why.  the story that she gives is that she’s a runaway- and there are things that support that, yet we don’t know what was so bad to make her run.  We also see hints and glimpses at there being more to her background yet nothing concrete to go on.  She’s great at picking up details around her and descriptions of people – like a cop might, but there’s nothing to give us that line of thought.

Then there’s Jake – he’s dark and dangerous – we know that his past is dirty given that his father was murdered and everyone knows that he’s been in less than legal businesses.  Still – it’s something that really leaps off the page in the sense of passion, heat and something that you know you shouldn’t get involved in.

Once Lily and Jake decide that they are compelled to follow their chemistry, the story gets hot.  The way that Ms. LeCarre writes their scenes is passionate for sure without being dirty.  I”m used to getting the ‘naughty’ bits of BDSM or hard core erotica, but there’s something dark here underneath and that’s even more intriguing.  The other piece is that we’re really starting to see the back story on Jake and a deeper character development that makes you want him even more.  I know that i do.

So…what happens in the last few pages – well that’s something that i was NOT expecting at all and i’m really upset that i don’t have book 2 yet.  Not only do we know that Jake’s mom has had a premonition that’s been validated, but we now know that there’s something else going on with Lily – even if we don’t know what it is.  So the question begs to be asked who’s going to live who’s going to die and how are all the secrets going to come out?
