Overview

Love doesn’t always conquer all, but it can conquer me.

Alexander had the world at his feet and me on my knees until secrets tore us apart.
I should stay away from him. I should run. But I’m addicted to him…to the pleasure and the pain.
He warned me about his dark side…about his past. But I have a dark side, too. Together we’ll conquer our demons…if we don’t destroy each other first.

My Thoughts

STILL LOVE this series.  I went back to read what my thoughts were on the first installment of this series since i have such a positive reaction and yup – it holds true.  There’s something to be said about a story that has so much tension, passion and anxiety in it, and it is all written so well together.  You really don’t know what’s going to be thrown at them next, even though you fully understand what the underlying issue is.

So we join this series again when Alexander and Clara aren’t necessarily together, yet they can’t be apart from one another.  Alexander has told her that they can’t be together since there are expectations on who he’s to be with since he’s the Crown Prince, and yet there’s such a strong attraction and bond between them that it’s futile in a sense to try to stay apart.  The other bit is that we know that Alexander has hinted at the fact that he’s a dominant and while he’s not one to actively pursue the lifestyle, we know that it’s a part of who he is.

If that wasn’t enough, we know that there’s so much more going on.  We know that Pepper has her own motivations in the story – i know that she wants to be with Alexander and not  for love but for what he can do for her and what he can give her (money and all that other stuff to be spoilt with).  What’s interesting though is where our author takes her in this installment. While i knew that there was going to be more about the car crash coming up i think that the other bit of information that we learn, that Clara is able to use against her is even jucier.

And there’s more.  We see that the perfect world that Clara thought she had with her family isn’t quite as sound, and we see her mother and father’s relationship tested.  The good thing though is that even with everything that’s going on with those folks, Clara continues to have a confidant in Edward – Alexander’s brother – and she’s able to get some sense of sanity and life back into herself.

If you thought that perhaps all that was enough to make for a great 2nd installment, there’s still so much more that goes on.  We have a jilted psycho ex come into the picture – and that’s not a good thing.  We have a father who has a pure hatred for things that he can’t control, we have drug allegations and we have a relationship that is so tentative and fragile that even a little whisper of a breath will break it.  Where we are left off at the very end of this book is one that’s really an edge.  You want to hope for the best, yet you know that whatever sense of security that we have is going to be broken as soon as we stop being cautious.  So, thankfully the 3rd book is out and i have it in my library so i’m going to dive right into it tonight and i’ll let you know what i think.  I can’t wait to see where Alexander and Clara end up, and the fear that i have knowing that the epilogue teased someone buying a gun ….well i wonder who’s going to make it to the end of the trilogy.  i’ll leave you with those parting thoughts and enjoy!
