I’ve Been Tagged: Would You Rather

No-Brainer

Hey guys!  I’ve been tagged!  Thanks Amber @ Wild Hearts Reviews.  So, what does this mean?  It means that you get to know a bit more about me rapid fire style:

The Questions: ★

Would you rather only read trilogies or only read stand alones?

I think that it’s safe to say that i do so LOVE a good trilogy or series.  there’s something to be said about being able to get immersed in a great story line that keeps you involved month after month.  Although i HATE when i have to wait ages for next installment to come out.

Would you rather only read male or female authors?

I don’t know that i’m partial to either or.  I think that i’ve gravitated towards females, but i think that there are some great guys out there who are writing in the genres that i love.

Would you rather shop at Barnes and Noble or Amazon?

I’m a BN.com girl – that’s where i get most of my stuff since it’s force of habit to go to my nook app . i’m slowly being converted to Amazon though since i get unlimited reads via prime and unlimited.

Would you rather books were made into TV shows or movies?

I think that it depends on the situation.  There are several books that were made into movies that honestly should have been shows and vice versa.  if there’s something there with the chance for long tail, i’m all for the TV show, but i think that there are some stories that are amazing for the big screen.

Would you rather read only 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

5 books.  hands down on this one – for sure.  i don’t know if you even get anything out of most books in just 5 pages.

★ Would you rather be a professional author or reviewer?

I like being the reviewer.  There are certainly days that i toy with the idea of being a writer, but i don’t know that i’ve been able to put the time down to start the plot and flush it out.

Would you rather be a librarian or a bookseller?

bookseller.  I like being able to get people excited about the newest releases and i think that’s something that you have more exposure to in a store.

Would you rather read only your favorite genre, or ever other genre but your favorite?

I float between 2 favorite genres, so while i prefer to read those, i’m open to others from time to time.

Would you rather only read e-books or physical books?

e-books.  not only is it better for the environment, it’s SO MUCH EASIER TO TRAVEL WITH.  i find that with my commute and all my travel lately, if i had to bring 3+ actual books with me, it wouldn’t happen.  and i find that i read faster and more variety via e.

Review: Playing Dirty (Monkey Business #1) by C.L. Parker

No-Brainer

Title:  Playing Dirty

Length: 336 pages
Series: Monkey Business #1

Overview

Shaw Matthews plays to win, and he intends to snag a coveted partnership at San Diego’s hottest sports agency by signing America’s top athlete. Only one woman stands in his way: rival agent Cassidy Whalen. But eliminating the competition will be Shaw’s pleasure when he concocts an ingenious plan to seduce Cassidy and show the beautiful ballbreaker who’s the better man for the job. That is, until Cassidy turns the tables—and their steamy encounters start breaking all the rules.

Cassidy has worked hard to make it in a man’s cutthroat arena, and she isn’t going down without a fight, not even against the six-two alpha hunk whose rock-hard body awakens desires she’s never known before. As Cassidy shares night after night of unending passion with Shaw, the game begins to change. Now Cassidy stands to lose everything—unless a fiery contest of wills can become a winning proposition for two people who keep raising the stakes.

My Thoughts

I’m a fan of this author and figured that if nothing else, i’d get something great to enjoy – with a mix of powerful characters and really great passion and heat.  That’s exactly what we get here, with Shaw and Cassidy who are in complete competition with each other and yet find themselves drawn sooo tightly to one another as well.

Being told to play off each other in the hopes of signing the BEST free agent athlete in the business, they find that they are not being told to necessarily go solo on this, but to figure out a way to woo him to SSE – their agency.  The end game here of course is that who ever gets the athlete gets a promotion and that’s something that they are both dying for.

Of course – where there’s heat in competition, there’s going to be heat in the personalities, and what starts off as a fantasy of sorts – both are dreaming about what they want to do to the other, we see that it quickly moves from there into something that’s raw and passionate and really really hot.  Think alley way in the rain, with inhibitions and all that good stuff.  Shaw knows how to please a woman, and since Cassidy is a powerful woman in her own right, she knows how to control things just a bit too much for Shaw’s liking.

Throughout the story, what we get is the constant back and forth of break up sex of sorts, but at least it’s hot.  While we don’t know who’s going to win the athlete/promotion, we know that there will be a constant battle between these 2 bringing them together as often as possible.  Will that mean that they’ll actually get together at some point?  doubtful, but it’s nice to see the path that they go to in order to force the other to admit weakness.

The other nice thing about what our author does is create this great sub story – in the sense that there are amazing supporting characters that have their own story lines that really keep you invested.  we have a few other romances within the group that aren’t quite at the point of happening, yet you know they are on the edge.  that screams spin off series and i love that.  We see Quinn (Cassidy’s roommate) with an in the closet / out of the closet romance, we see Sasha and Landon finally sorting themselves out, we see Demi and Chaz still in the dark, so it’s all good stuff.

So on that note, i can’t wait for book 2, and i hope that you guys have a nice week ahead!

Book Description:
Noah Brandt is a successful blacksmith and businessman in Splendor, Montana, with few ties to his past as an ex-Union Army major and sharpshooter. Quiet and hardworking, his biggest challenge is controlling his strong desire for a woman he believes is
beyond his reach.
Abigail Tolbert is tired of being under her father’s thumb while at the same time, being pushed away by the one man she desires. Determined to build a new life outside the
control of her wealthy father, she finds work and sets out to shape a life on her own terms.
Noah has made too many mistakes with Abby to have any hope of getting her back. Even with the changes in her life, including the distance she’s built with her father, he can’t keep himself from believing he’ll never be good enough to claim her.
Unexpected dangers, including a twist of fate for Abby, change both their lives, making the tentative steps they’ve taken to build a relationship a distant hope. As Noah battles his past as well as the threats to Abby, she fights for a future with the only man she will ever love.
Excerpt:
Abby rounded on him, arms crossed, angry eyes flashing up at him. “What do you think you were doing in there? Do you have so little respect for me you think you can touch me like that at the supper table with others all around us?” She drew in a deep breath,
letting it out slowly as her heart continued to beat almost painfully in her chest.
Noah’s concern turned to discomfort at the agony he saw on her face. “I’m sorry. I’d never do anything to cause you embarrassment or pain.”
“Then what was that about?”
He looked toward the western
mountains, noting the sun touching the tops of the highest peaks, and took a
deep breath. Shoving his hands in his pockets so he wouldn’t do what he wanted
and reach out to touch her, Noah took a step backward.
“Do you remember when you told me you no longer had feelings for me?” His voice was rough as he worked to swallow the lump in the back of his throat.
She let her arms drop, clasping her hands in front of her, feeling regret at how he’d interpreted her words.
“Yes…”
Noah had fought his attraction to her for too long. He needed to be honest, let her know how he felt, and discover if she still had any feelings for him at all.
“I need to know the truth, Abby. Do you feel anything for me?”

Review: Grey (Fifty Shades of Grey #4) by E.L. James

No-Brainer

Title:  Grey
Author: E.L. James
Publisher/Year: Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group 6/18/15
Length: 423 pages
Series: Fifty Shades of Grey #4

Overview

In Christian’s own words, and through his thoughts, reflections, and dreams, E L James offers a fresh perspective on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the world.

Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty—until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him—past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian’s cold, wounded heart.

Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?

My Thoughts

I think that we have all been waiting a long time for a continuation of sorts to this saga and i for one really enjoy getting to see a story from the other side – the male lead POV.  it’s something that i’ve come to enjoy a lot when authors decide to treat us to it, and in this case, it’s no exception.

What we have here is the way that Christan has processed things throughout the development of his relationship with Ana and i have to say that there’s somethign to seeing that the ‘monster’ actually has a heart and to see that it wasn’t just about the D/s relationship with him, and that he was as troubled with ‘wanting more’ with Ana as she was in making the decision to be with him.

What i was most curious to see though is at what point we were going to drop off in this story.  meaning was it just going to be his POV from the first novel or for the complete series, and given that it was like 400+ pages. i was even more curious.  That being said, i think that we get a thorough version of things, and i’m thrilled that we got to get into Christian’s head for a bit .

The other nice thing that EL James does for us is that we get these flashbacks of sorts, of when he was a child before being adopted and then of some of those moments with him and his new family when he just became part of the Grey brood.  We get to see how his mind processed what was going on then, and how hard it was, which of course gave him a ‘rough start in life’ – as he puts it to Ana all the time.

Part of me wishes that we had more of his POV – and i wonder if we’ll get it, but if we don’t, at least you get the same level of heat and passion – you get to see the control that he has when he’s with her – to give Ana the flowers and romance that she wants – yet at the same time, he’s got the Dark and Stormy bits of the very sexy controlling Dom that he is.

We have the hot scenes in the ‘red room of pain’ here – we see how amazing he is at his craft, and at the same time, we see that there’s such a strong romantic inside, one that has this amazing passion and chemistry with Ana, that it just leaps off the pages and you want to hope for the best for them.  And all that being said – it was a great read to wrap up my weekend.  Have a great Monday all and a nice week!

Review: Victorious (The Quantum Trilogy #3) by M.S. Force

Title:  Victorious
Author: M.S. Force

Length: 216 pages
Series: The Quantum Trilogy #3

Overview

He’s a sexual dominant. She’s sworn off sex. There’s no way they can make a relationship work–or can they?

After surviving a traumatic event at age fifteen and the ensuing estrangement from her family, Natalie Bryant has worked for years to reinvent herself into the woman she is today–a happy teacher fresh out of college and enjoying her first winter in New York City with her faithful dog, Fluff, by her side. Natalie isn’t expecting her life to change completely during a routine stroll through Greenwich Village on a blustery January day. But when Fluff breaks loose and charges into a park, Natalie gives chase and crashes into her destiny. Only after Fluff bites and draws blood from the man who accidentally knocked Natalie down does she realize Fluff has bitten the biggest movie star in the world.

He has no business being enthralled by the gorgeous, young, innocent teacher…
Natalie captivates Flynn Godfrey from the first moment their eyes meet while she is lying on the ground and he’s fighting off her ferocious little beast of a dog. The only thing Flynn knows for certain is if he lets Natalie get away, he’ll regret it for the rest of his life. After only a short time in her presence, Flynn is prepared to change who he is to be what she needs. He knows he’s in big trouble when she says she won’t sleep with him and he doesn’t care if it means he gets to keep her in his life. But can he turn his back on the lifestyle that has defined him? Can he deny the desires that drive him to give Natalie the introduction to love and romance she so deserves? And most of all, can he keep his truth hidden from her long enough to have forever with her?

My Thoughts

If you think back, Natalie left Flynn at the end of the last installment, after learning about his deepest secrets from his ex Val, and then when confronted with the questions, Flynn denied it all.  we all know that his motives here were completely in the right place – but i think that there’s so much heat and passion here that’s raw and at the surface that it doesn’t matter what his intentions were – Natalie still needs space.

Add to that, the same moment that happens, the FBI agent is back sniffing around for more information from Flynn which makes things even worse.  They are certainly on a roller coaster and it’s one that’s not going to slow down any time soon.

Throughout this final installment in the series, we see that not only are bits and pieces falling into place and being resolved, but the way that our author M.S. Force writes it, we know that there’s going to be another hurdle to over come and that’s something amazing.  These intense passion that these 2 leads have is combustible and it comes right off the pages.  I think that it’s something that you want to root for but at the same time you’re afraid that if you want the best for them, that something else awful is going to happen.

So we see a lot going on with the FBI investigation, narrowing down to suspects and all that.  I think that i’m still of the school that things someone inside the circle did it, but i guess you’ll have to read to find out which one.

We see that there’s still the issue of whether Natalie will get her teaching job back and what that would ultimately mean to the couple since he’s in LA more than NYC.  it’s still very much up in the air if she’ll be allowed to come back since the principle is still against it.  and seems like she’s never going to change her mind.

Then their relationship is the last bit – i think that there’s so much to talk about here.  did they go too hard too fast.  will it last and what will it mean for them? will Hayden ever accept Natalie as part of Flynn’s life?  and will Flynn allow his BDSM side come into the picture in a way that will make Nat seem safe and cared for.

Soooo many questions but i think that they are all good questions to ponder.  so on that note, i hope that you guys enjoy this finale of the series – it’s up there in one of my favs not only for the story line but there’s a good bit of education that we get here – a lot about how to make a nervous sub come into the lifestyle and flourish.  there’s a way that this was written that makes it very hot and very steamy and you really think that you’re there with them.  So on that note – HAPPY FRIDAY all

Can he deny the desires that drive him to give Natalie the introduction to love and romance she so deserves? And most of all, can he keep his truth hidden from her long enough to have forever with her?

My Thoughts

I don’t know if it’s possible to pull together more complexity than what we get in this story – and while we’re hoping for a happy ending, it seems like there’s no way that it’s going to happen for these 2.  We had left Flynn and Natalie at the end of book 1 when their world seemed to be in a great place and then it all came crashing down when someone revealed Natalie’s deepest and most hidden secret – what happened to her in the past and by whom.  While we didn’t know what that would mean for the couple, we saw that it was having such a bad effect on Nat – she was fired from her job and everything that she tried to hide from the world was now front page news.

So in this second installment, we see that they have gone to LA in the hopes of getting ahead of things, figuring out what to do next, and all the while, trying to see how they can make this intense love affair hold strong.  This is a roller coaster since we see that Flynn professionally has some of the highest highs he can imagine, however there’s still a bit of a struggle with him and his bestie Hayden who’s not quite sure what to make of things.  especially since he knows that it means that Flynn is hiding one of the most core things to his being – that he’s a dominant and that he’s got his own playroom in his houses, and then there’s Club Quantum.

That’s the underlying theme here, that we know that Flynn’s keeping that bit of himself at bay, and while we should all know from all other stories in the genre that it’s something that will NEVER work, we still want the best for them.  It’s towards the end when Natalie is intercepted by Val (Flynn’s ex) who decides to tell her that the Flynn that she knows may not be the stellar guy that she’s thinking she’s got.  and that leads us down a very dark and troubled path when things are uncovered, lies are told, and we all know that means DISASTER for a couple.

On top of that, at some point in the story, the FBI pops up and we see that there’s an investigation going on since the lawyer that broke the news about Natalie is now been found murdered and there’s a question as to who;s done it since everyone saw that Flynn has extreme hate towards the guy.

So yet another cliffhanger – we see that the relationship is in shambles, Natalite’s future is in shambles, both personally and professionally and now Flynn has a whole new world of hurt to deal with.  Thank goodness i have book 3 already and that’s something that i can jump right into this evening.  So on that note, enjoy the intense chemistry that these 2 have throughout the book – it’s VERY hot and steamy and hopefully the roller coaster keeps you as invested as it has for me.  Happy Tuesday!

Can he deny the desires that drive him to give Natalie the introduction to love and romance she so deserves? And most of all, can he keep his truth hidden from her long enough to have forever with her?

My Thoughts

I wasn’t sure at all what to expect from this series, but i have to say that the introduction that we have to things is really great – and the cliffhanger that we’re left with as to the big reveal on Natalie – well it’s something that we’ve been building up to the whole story and i’m glad that it’s finally come to a head.

I’m not at all familiar with this author, but i have to say that the way that this story was laid out is a great progression.  we meet a leading lady who’s making her life into something better because of a trauma that she lived through when she was 15.  We also have a leading man who’s quite famous and successful, yet he’s one of the nicest guys you could ever hope for – aside from the fact that he’s got this dark side of his naughty interests in the club and bedroom.  Knowing what Natalie has had to deal with, it’s surprising that Flynn still wants to get involved with her and we quickly learn that it’s something that he can’t help.

This story takes us through a week or so of a great roller coaster relationship.  The two of them bond over all things normal, and we see that there’s a way to have great chemistry and passion even when sex isn’t involved.  We see that Flynn truly cares and that’s a nice quality to have in our main male character.

It’s not until the last few pages that we see things come to a head.  Flynn’s brought Natalie to the Golden Globes, she’s now on the radar of all reporters everywhere and while they do their best to keep her identity a secret, things like that are NEVER ever buried and we find out in the last 2-3 pages that things are going to come crashing down FAST.

I can’t wait to see where book 2 takes us though, since we now have to get to the bottom of what this reveal means to Natalie, to Flynn and to everyone else.  it’s something major for sure, and that’s what a great ending of a book should have.  Romance, anxiety and well – a bit of legal problem rolled into one.  So, enjoy reading everyone and again, happy Monday.
