Meet Jeremy McQueen, a sexy, intense, brooding entrepreneur who goes after what he wants, and Phoebe St. Claire, a socialite-turned-CEO who’s been drifting through life searching for something she thought she’d never find again—the right man to share her future.

Phoebe St. Claire has devoted herself to saving her family’s hotel empire—but her best efforts have not been good enough. With her whole world in turmoil, the tenacious go-getter turns to the once love of her life. Far from innocent, Jeremy McQueen was a guy from the wrong side of the tracks and her parents would never have approved. Their years apart have only made the sexy bad boy more irresistible than ever—and their reunion is explosive.

When she asks Jeremy to help her salvage her family business, he agrees immediately, with only one condition—he wants her in his bed.

But soon surprising circumstances leave Phoebe reeling. Was this fairy tale romance just too good to be true? Will Jeremy’s secrets pull them apart all over again?

My Thoughts

I’m a sucker for eye catching cover art which is what we got here.  In any event, it’s a nice story by an author that i’m not familiar with which is always nice – and it’s a standalone – which means that i don’t have to wait for ever for another one – although i think that there are so many characters that were introduced to us that there could Definitely be extensions.

What we have here is a story of the upper east side rich girl who falls in love over the summer with a boy from a different class (or so we’re led to believe).  Because of a variety of circumstances, she can’t tell him who she is and when he finds out, well, their romance ends.  not on the best of terms either.

they go their separate ways and then we are sped up about 5 years to where paths are intersecting once again.  Phoebe our leading lady comes to us on the day that she was supposed to get married to Dawson, yet she decided that for any number of reasons, he’s not the one for her – and instead, she goes out ‘celebrating’ with her group of close friends at an exclusive club.  Ironically of course, Dawson and his friends are there as well, and through some unfortunate circumstances, well, Phoebe ends up in a compromising situation with one of Dawson’s friends and needs to be rescued.  As expected, part of the reason for breaking off her engagement with Dawson is that she’s missing the spark that she had with Jeremy the guy from her past, and it’s on that same night when she needs saving that she feels that same spark come alive, just when it’s needed most.

Jeremy is there of course, comes to her rescue, but Phoebe is too drunk to remember much of what happens from there.  The course that the story takes from there on is a bit of a roller coaster.  These 2 connect again, but it’s far from perfect and easy.  The chemistry that they have together is still insane but what they choose to do with it is another question.  They fight each other at every turn, with trust issues and questions about what is true and real and what’s been contrived for revenge.

The question that you have at every turn of the page is who or what will break them apart next, and will there be something left strong enough to save them or are they destined to part ways again.  I think that it’s interesting the few twists that we see happen throughout their story – and how it brings them closer since their heat and passion is combustive – yes we know that it’s never going to last since there are too many issues from both the past and the present to keep them apart.

I for one kept wanting them to find their happy place and the way that our author writes this story – you wonder if that’s possible.  Ms. Karr gives us a journey with these 2 that has so many tests through out – a person who’s out to manipulate the situation entirely and a bunch of mystery.  All peppered in with some GREAT romance and heat that you know you have to keep reading.  I just hope that we get to see another installment featuring one of the other folks in Phoebe’s group since there are so many and i’m sure that their stories would be just as amazing.  On that note – Happy Friday all and enjoy!

Review: Breaking Her Rules (Beyond the Cage #1) by Jennifer Snow

Title:  Breaking the Rules
Author: Jennifer Snow
Publisher/Year: Penguin 7/21/15
Length: 231 pages
Series:  Beyond the Cage #1

MMA fighters go the distance in this all-new series from Jennifer Snow, author of the Brookhollow novels.

Walker Adams was supposed to follow in his lawyer father’s footsteps, but instead he’s training to be an MMA fighter. And while he works for his chance to make it in the Maximum Fight League, he’s bunking on his baby sister’s best friend’s couch. Gracie Andrews is all grown up—in all the right places. But she’s engaged to the fight match-maker who holds Walker’s career in his hands…

Gracie had almost convinced herself that she’d put her silly childhood crush on Walker to rest. But the sight of him sleeping in only a pair of boxer briefs makes it clear that some things never change. And as old sparks turn to flames, Gracie is forced to decide between the future she thought she wanted or the man she’s never stopped loving…

My Thoughts

First off, thanks to the folks at Red Moon Book Tours for sharing the ARC with me – always appreciate being able to check out authors and books to give my thoughts.  It’s funny – with all that i’ve read in the genre, it’s usually in a different context that we’re brought into the world of hand to hand anything.  I think back to a favorite series of mine where the lead characters are all Ds, but they also own a Dojo and that’s where we get the element of fighting.  In this though, it’s really brought to us in a nice way.

The other nice element here is that similar to a bit of other stuff that i’ve read recently, we get to see that there’s a bond when kids are younger (or at least an unrequited crush) and it’s not until everyone’s grown up, filled out and gotten a bit of hard life experience that brings them back together.

There’s a lot of back and forth here – Gracie doesn’t know what it is that she wants in life  and what does that mean for her?  well you have to stay invested here to really get it.  Then there’s the fact that Walker’s eyes may have been opened up once he saw what Gracie has grown into, and while that’s a nice thing – it’s very expected.

The journey that we go on here is nice, there relationship that they develop is a good one – it’s sweet and i think that you want to root for the happy ending.  The question is though is what will it mean to each other since they clearly chose different paths.  All in all though, i think that this could be the beginning to a good series.  I’m one to really hope for spin-offs with other characters since the supportings tend to be really interesting, so here’s to hoping.  I hope that you guys get a chance to pick it up – it’ll be a nice read for you.  Enjoy!

Review: The Taming of the Billionaire (Billionaires and Bridesmaids #2) by Jessica Clare

Title:  The Taming of the Billionaire
Author: Jessica Clare
Publisher/Year: Penguin Publishing Group 7/21/15
Length: 267 pages
Series:  Billionaires and Bridesmaids #2

Edie’s an overbearing cat behaviorist who’s not big on people. Magnus is a newly-rich game developer who likes to be in control. When the two of them meet at Gretchen and Hunter’s masquerade engagement party, the loathing is mutual. Unfortunately for them—and everyone else—they’re in the wedding party together and must deal with each other for the next few months.

But when Magnus’s younger brother falls for Edie’s sister, he begs for his brother’s help in concocting a plan to win her over. If Magnus can keep the prickly Edie occupied, his brother will have time to woo Edie’s sister. Of course, Magnus isn’t interested in the slightest, but Edie is…intriguing. And stubborn. And smart. And sexy. And they might have more in common than they thought.

Before long, it becomes a challenge between the two of them to see who will be tamed first. But how’s Edie going to react when she finds out that Magnus is using her? And how’s Magnus going to handle the fact that he’s fallen for a cat lady?

My Thoughts

While i don’t know that i agree with the idea that this is a ‘Shakespeare style seduction’  – i can get the whole ‘taming of the shrew reference.  Anyhow, we continue with this spin-off series in much of the same way as the other installments of both the big show and this series.  We’re meeting up with a piece of Hunter and Gretchen’s story this time – as they are planning for their wedding a year in advance.  Gretchen being the romantic that she’s turned out to be has decided that through a series of events she will be doing her darndest to not only make sure the wedding party of very well acquainted, but she’s matchmaking all the same.  In this case, it’s a pre pre party that brings everyone together.

Here is where we meet Edie, one of Gretchen’s oldest friends.  Edie of course has had her own fair share of suffering, much like that of Hunter, but not to the same extremes.  Through the course of the story, we learn that Edie was once very active, and on the road to becoming a physical therapist.  After a horrible skiing accident, she’s left with a busted knee that gives her a pronounced limp and a lot of pain, and also completely changes her professional path – directing her into feline behaviourist – other wise known as ‘The Cat Lady’.

It’s at this first party though that Edie over hears some of the guys mocking the idea of a weird cat lady as their pair that things get interesting.  especially as one of those guys is billionaire game developer Magnus – the same guy that Gretchen is trying to set her up with.

Where this story goes is one that’s quite expected – yet there’s this underlying tone of when will the other shoe drop.  The budding relationship between the two is fully contrived as Edie’s sister Biance and Magnus’ brother Levi are trying to get together and Bianca has this air of ‘i have to be available for Edie at all times’ so they need to figure out ways to keep Edie occupied.  I don’t know about any of the other readers – but way early on in the story, it wasn’t just the sense of her being a gold digger – i knew that there had to be more to the story with Bianca, and i think that we get to see the truth of things about 2/3 of the way in.

Regardless – while the relationship between Magnus and Edie didn’t start out on honest terms, we see a really great thing start.  We see that Edie’s able to help Magnus see his full potential and realize that he’s not just the brains behind the tech of his games but that he’s able to do it all and doesn’t need to feel the stress of pushing his brother.  In return, Edie gets a relationship with a guy that seems to not want to consider her an invalid and who really wants to do these big gestures because he cares.  The question though that lies ahead is who is going to reveal the lies and what will that mean for everyone involved.

True Jessica Clare style – we get that all in the last few chapters and the resolution is semi expected but with a few interesting bits and pieces.  The other trademark that we have here in this 2nd installment to the series is that the passion and chemistry here is sweet.  Similar to what we actually saw with Gretchen and Hunter – the romance here is exactly as it should be – not PG by any means, but still really romantic, hot and necessary.  I can’t wait to see what the next installment brings us and who it’s going to focus on.  Thankfully at least in this wedding party a lot has been set up but we can’t forget that there are so many others from the original series that will have their own contributions as well.  so on that note – enjoy and Happy Monday all.

Review: Breaking Clear (Full Hearts #3) by MJ Summers

Title:  Breaking Clear
Author: MJ Summers
Publisher/Year: MJ summers 6/15/15
Length: 267 pages
Series:  Full Hearts #3

As art director of Style Magazine in Manhattan, Harper Young’s life is glamorous and fast-paced, just the way she likes it. This small town girl has left her roots – and her painful past – a million miles away . . . until one phone call changes everything. It’s time to face her childhood and the man she left behind . . .

When Evan Donovan isn’t on a construction site, he is usually hanging from a cliff somewhere. He’s been dealt a rough hand when it comes to love and now believes in keeping things simple. But when Harper Young drops back into his life, things suddenly get complicated. He resolves to stay away but the pull he feels to her is just too strong. Harper and Evan quickly find themselves in each other’s arms, telling themselves it’s only for now and that soon they’ll go back to their very different lives.

But true love doesn’t exactly play by the rules – before long they’re falling hard and fast. Soon they will have to ask themselves whether they’re brave enough to put it all on the line and fight for their forever . . .

My Thoughts

Well, thanks again from NetGalley for this 3rd installment – much appreciated!  As for the book, well i think that we all wanted to get to the bottom of Harper’s story after meeting her in book 2 through Megan.  And, we’re not let down by how driven she is especially after seeing what happens when she’s forced to choose life or work.

She chose life – of course – after hearing about a horrible accident that her father has, which makes her move from NYC – away from her amazing high powered fashion job to Boulder Colorado to be with her dad as he’s on the brink of life and death, and then wondering what he’ll do when he can’t move his legs after a construction accident.

Adjusting to her new life once she’s fired from her job, getting back into the swing of things in Boulder where she really has nothing to do aside from care for her dad who’s still in the hospital, it’s no wonder that she finds herself in a bit of depression.  and of course it’s those low moments that her sexy neighbor Evan finds her as well.  Mind you, they have some history since she’s been in love with him since high school and he never gave her the time of day.

So of course, knowing how our lovely author writes these stories, we have a couple that finds themselves so attracted to one another that they kid themselves into thinking that they can get sexually and romantically involved without getting romantically entangled.  Meaning that there’s great sex with no fear of getting attached.  or so they think.

We go on a nice journey with these two – see a great comfort and relationship build here – with Harper finding herself again in town, and watching Evan thrive in his business.  He’s getting his confidence back in everything that he does after the debacle of his divorce – his ex leaving him because he went broke trying to maintain the lives of his employees.  That’s something that Harper doesn’t even care about – the money bit and we see how that facet of things makes their relationship so much stronger.  It also means that we get to see a lot of passion between them and it’s really sweet and heated.

There’s something to be said about sweet sex, that still has a lot of chemistry, and passion.  It doesn’t have to be dirty at all, but what it does is gives you that sense of connection and romance that sometimes you just really want.

Typical to the genre, there’s that point in the relationship when things are going great, you’re just about to admit that you love each other and the other shoe drops.  Is it the ex?  is it Harpers Job?  is it both?  well we do see a bit of all that pop up, and ultimately it means that Harper and Evan part ways, very unhappy about it, yet not willing to really admit to themselves that it’s the wrong choice.  For the remainder of the story we see these 2 miserable living their separate lives, needing the intervention of Megan and Luc – their close and caring friends to make any changes.  Question is will there be enough to bring them back together and what will that mean since we know that their lives have taken them to different locales?  The only way to find out my readers – READ it!  Have a great night all!

Review: Breaking Love (Full Hearts #2) by MJ Summers

Title:  Breaking Love
Author: MJ Summers
Publisher/Year: MJ summers 10/28/14
Length: 304 pages
Series:  Full Hearts #2

Luc Chevalier, successful businessman and well-known heart breaker, has everything he desires: power, luxury, beautiful women . . . and no strings attached. Now, an accidental meeting is about to make him question everything.
Megan Sullivan is a single mom with a rather ordinary life. She is comfortable with things just the way they are. She has a six-year-old son, Elliott, a cozy house in Boulder, Colorado, and a photography business to put food on the table. Her ex lives hours away in Florida, which is plenty close enough. Megan is on her own and she intends to keep it that way.

On a chance trip to Paris with her best friend, Megan stumbles into Luc’s seemingly perfect world. They agree to one night together and no more. Yet that night changes Megan. Luc manages to draw out the passionate woman that Megan has carefully hidden away for years. But she knows she’s out of her depth: Luc is beautiful, ruthless and – somewhere deep down inside – irreparably damaged.

Can two people who’ve yet to find true happiness put aside their fears and fight for what they truly want?

One thing is for sure: life won’t, life can’t, ever be the same again.

My Thoughts

Well, i was definitely hoping that we’d get to know Luc a bit more after meeting him in the first installment in the series, and i’m SO very happy to see that the man that we saw then really isn’t the only bits of the true man.  Arrogant yes, sexy yes, but really truly romantic and that’s what i love about mains.

Megan on the other hand is one of those women who’s been burned by an ex that she loved and thought she could fix, and because of that experience, she’s devoted her life solely to her son and will never even think about a man in the sense of long term.  or even short term.  It’s only when Haper gets under her skin that she is able to live a little and really enjoy what’s to be had.

Megan allows herself one night with the sexy Luc and when she’s finally allowed herself to enjoy a man, and be sensual and sexy, well, the other shoe drops via Simone, Luc’s long time assistant, and woman who’s been in love with Luc for years with feelings that aren’t returned.  She’s one to watch out for since the one thing that she does to break these 2 apart certainly cannot be the only thing that she’ll do.

The journey that we go on here is one of enjoyment, no expectations, and well, some GREAT sex.  They fully satisfy one another in bed, but of course when they say no strings, you know that there will be strings that develop and that’s where the questions lead us that are unknown.  While they’ve come to an agreement that they will do long distance and exclusive yet with no expectations, it’s when an accident happens that things are thrown for a loop.

Just when things seem like they are working out, they decide to part ways, and of course the great and wonderful (not) simone pops back up, and the question is has she done something so horrible that the 2 will never get back together or is there hope.  I don’t know that we’ll get all the answers – but i suggest that you guys read on and check it out.

Thanks again to Netgalley for getting me a copy of this, and i now have book 3 to read and enjoy – so on that note – happy sunday all and i hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

Review: Desired by a Dangerous Man (By a Dangerous Man Season 2 Ep. 4) by Cleo Peitsche

Title:  Desired by a Dangerous Man
Author: Cleo Peitsche
Publisher/Year: Pouch Productions 7/14/15
Length: 124 pages
Series:  By a Dangerous Man Season 2 Ep 4

Corbin Lagos is everything Audrey ever wanted, but the billionaire ex-assassin who stole her heart is hiding something. Something big.

And he’s becoming more secretive by the day.

She doesn’t have time to tend to her relationship, not when the family bounty hunting business is failing and the clock is ticking on the most important investigation of her career.

This time she can’t do it alone. Corbin is the only one who can help, but his methods lead to changes she’s not prepared for.

My Thoughts

The saga continues, with a lot of twists and turns in both investigations being done by Audrey and Corbin.  when we left off, things were so up in the air for both that there was the potential for it to pull them apart although it’s not likely since they are so in love.

So in this next installment, we see Audrey and her brother Rob trying to uncover who really murdered JD, Neil’s boyfriend, and they are led to LA where Sara, JD’s sister directed them to search his apartment.  What they find is little to no information, but being the skeptics that they are, Audrey seems to think that there’s a lot that’s being hidden and she’s going to do whatever it takes to find out since it means that they’ll be able to save Massimo, and hopefully their business.

Then there’s the investigation that Corbin is doing, trying to get to the bottom of what happened to his wife.  He’s beginning to question everything that he’s been told so far and i’m not surprised that he’s come to the conclusions that he has.  the issue now is really figuring out what happened to her and which side she’s playing for.

Now that takes us back to the ‘happy couple’ since both investigations are starting to take their toll on happiness.  On top of that, we still know that Henry is out to kill Audrey, and Corbin will do whatever he can to protect her.  That means of course making her a bit mad, but hey, at least while they are mad, they share passions on top of passions and that’s super hot.

Again, one of the GREAT things that cleo does for us in her writing is give us really steamy sceneing between our leads.  Corbin is such a powerful Alpha male that you know you’re going to get something that’s so naughty and hot that you can’t contain your enthusiasm.  Audrey is so open to everything that he wants to do and do to her all the time, that it’s just hot to read.  It’s a shame that we’ll have to keep waiting to find out what will happen, but you know that whatever’s being cooked up will be good.  So enjoy all and have a great saturday!

Review: Break in Two (Full Hearts #1) by MJ Summers

Title:  Break in Two

Publisher/Year: MJ summers 6/8/155
Length: 321 pages
Series:  Full Hearts #1

Having just discovered that her live-in boyfriend has traded her in for a twenty-two year old hostess, thirty-one year old Claire Hatley is on the run from Seattle. Devastated and alone Claire must make a fresh start. She answers an ad for a chef at a guest ranch just outside Colorado Springs and finds herself face to face with Cole Mitchell, quite possibly the sexiest man to ever ride a horse.

Common sense tells them to stay away from each other, but their attraction is not to be denied. He gives her a glimpse of what love should be, but just as she starts to trust him, the past comes back to tear them apart.

Join Claire and Cole as they embark on the stormy love affair of a lifetime.

My Thoughts

First off i want to thank the folks at NetGalley for making it possible for me to read this first installment of what i’m going to say is a rather enjoyable series.  We are quickly introduced to Cole and Claire as they find themselves drawn to a new chapter in their lives.

Clair is leaving Seattle after she learns of the affair that her live in boyfriend has been having and in this move, she’s going to Colorado to work at a ranch as their chef.  Something that she’s always wanted – to have her own place to make her own, and that’s the opportunity that she gets here.  The ranch, owned by Cole is trying to change it’s image a bit to stay relevant with the crowds that want to spend more money to get these great getaways.  That’s something that Claire’s really excited about and well, if there’s a hot cowboy there as well, nothing wrong with that.

Cole on the other hand is one of the owners of the ranch, and while he’s definitely not hurting for attention, he’s been burned by women, somewhat recently too and getting involved with an employee that he finds attractive is the last thing that he’s eager to do.  Of course as we all know, what you want and what happens are often two very different things.

What we get in this first installment is the story of the roller coaster of their relationship.  Claire has major trust issues after what her ex did to her and she’s quickly learning that while Cole isn’t untrustworthy, he’s got his fair share of secrets and that means that she’s going to have to give him the benefit of the doubt.  not something that she’s eager to do and not something that she does at all – so that’s where the ups and downs come from.

There’s a great amount of romance here, we see Cole trying to woo and impress her, and then we see what that means, that there’s a lot of passion shared between the two as well.  it’s straight romance though – nothing kinky at all, but still really enjoyable to read.  The question though of course is what’s going to happen when an ex and a baby show up forcing Claire to make a choice of her sanity or to be a team player – and ultimately chooses to run to her sister in London.  and inadvertently into the arms of Luc a sexy frenshman.

So much going on at the end of this book and i think that it sets up book 2 nicely.  I hope that you guys give it a chance, and now i’m off to continue onto book 2.  Also c/o NetGalley.  Happy Humpday!
