Review: Mistress Lexie (My Reason to Cheat #3) by Lacey Silks

No-Brainer

Title:  Mistress Lexie
Author: Lacey Silks
Publisher/Year:  MyLit Publishing 6/20/13
Length:  24 pages
Series:  My Reason to Cheat #3

Overview

Lexie has attended six conferences in the past month, watching James present. When she’s called up to the stage to help out, it occurs to her James has noticed her as well. Unable to hide her feelings for the stud, Lexie gives in to each hidden touch he’s able to make while presenting. And when the curtains go down and lights go off, both take advantage of the little privacy they have.

My Thoughts

Well, this was much faster even than the last novella – but i guess that’s the point right?  As teased in #2, Lexie is the wife of Maksim – Casey’s trainer, so it’s all tied together and related.  here we see that Lexie truly is at a ‘conference’ as Maks has told Casey and there it’s the presenter that gets her all hot and bothered.

While this scene is quick, it’s true to what Ms Silks always does.  We get to see that there’s a quick build to passion and heat that leaves you thinking about what will come next.

On that note – i’m buried under about 10 inches of snow at the moment with much more on the way, so i’m sure i’ll be back.

Review: Mistress Casey (My Reason to Cheat #2) by Lacey Silks

Title:  Mistress Casey

Length:  22 pages
Series:  My Reason to Cheat #2

Overview

Casey had been looking to re-connect with her husband emotionally and physically, but even her weight loss and sexy lingerie doesn’t help. When a gym’s owner becomes aware of Casey’s needs, and understands an unsatisfied marriage as well, Casey finds it easy to trust someone other than her husband to fulfill her.

My Thoughts

I love Ms Silks as an author and when i realized that i’ve missed out on the rest of this series, i had to get the remaining books.  (novellas – whatever).  So in this quick snippet of the bigger story, we get to see a scene in the story of Casey – where she’s clearly not blind to what’s going on in her marriage and had taken steps to get to a good place which didn’t work.  while that was happening, she got the attention of her trainer who ironically had a similar situation going on at home as well, and well, you can only imagine what will ensue.

Nothing too complex here, just the expected heat and passion from Ms. Lacey Silks.  and on that note, i’ll dive into the next one and be back shortly.  Have a great friday everyone and for those of you in the past of this big snowstorm – stay warm.

Review: The Return (Titan #1) by Jennifer L Armentrout

No-Brainer

Title:  The Return

Length:  344 pages
Series:  Titans #1

Overview

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

My Thoughts

SOOOo happy to be back in this series – even if it’s a spin-off.  There was something great about the big series when we were really invested in Alex, Aiden, and even Seth, and to know that the story has definitely not ended, and is going to get far far worse, well, it means that there’s so much left for us to enjoy.

In this book, we are focusing on Seth as expected, but there is another girl, who’s coming into powers that she could have never imagined, and would have never really believed in before either.  Josie never knew her father, who turns out to be a god, and ironically enough, the same relation to Alex so that they are connected (which makes things all that more creepy for Seth when he begins to see a growing attraction).

Throughout this story, we see Seth dealing with his internal battle, knowing that he gave up so much for Alex and Aiden, and that he’s going to pay the price forever, yet wondering if it’ll ever be enough to repent for what he’s done.  It takes a special sort of person (like Josie) to look past all that, even when she learns the truth, and still see Seth for what he is.

All this sappy bit aside, there’s something bad going on in the world.  After the battle that concluded the main series, one of the Titans had been released, and that’s bad – because he released the rest.  They are out to kill all the gods, and they are too powerful for even Seth and the gods together to kill.  they need the unexpected demigods help – and well, that’s a problem of its own since none of the demigods know that they are that – and well, most are still off the radar and need to be found.  1/2 were killed so there is a quick need to find the other 6 so that their powers can be unlocked and used together to kill the titans.  Who will win?  who will survive?  will we get to see more of Alex and Aiden?  I sure hope so.

On that note – i’m tracking down book 2 – not sure if it’s out yet, but i’ll sort that out shortly.  Happy Thursday!

My Thoughts

I love this series and i love that even though there’s the spin-off, we still get to stick with this couple that’s so amazing and in it for the long haul.  What’s really nice about what our author does with them, is that she makes them REAL.  Totally completely real.  there are struggles with them that are normal, there’s concerns of things getting stagnant and expected – there are everyday struggles that we can relate to and that’s something that you don’t always see in writing.

Throughout this 6th installment to the series, we’re seeing that Abby has this ‘need’ of sorts that is coming out more and more.  She’s fully consumed with the BDSM lifestyle, but there are facets that intrigue her more.  Being watched, doing things in public really seem to turn her on, and Nathaniel is afraid that it means that HE’s not enough.  It’s one of the few times that we see him really doubting himself and it’s nice.  He’s all powerful and authoritative in all else that he does so this is nice.

The other bits of this story is that we’re seeing further growth and development between the other couples in the Partners in Play group and that’s nice.  We’ve already gotten to see 2 full stories of those couples and it’s nice to see the lead in to yet another with Cole and Sasha.  I feel like there is so much to be seen about how each dom has their own style that it’s going to make for great reading.

Back to Abby and Nathaniel though, it’s nice to see how they are growing, 10 years in, and how their lifestyle is still really important to who they are.  There are challenges – other people in the mix, Charlene specifically in relation to how Abby feels w/ Nathantiel’s employee, and that all shakes out in an interesting way.

True to form, we get some AMAZING scening with these couples.  It’s not even about how elaborate the scene is really – it’s about how clear the connection is that’s written between them all that i can’t get enough of.  It’s hot, there’s chemistry leaping off the pages and it’s something that i feel i’ll never get enough of.  On that note – i can’t wait until the next installment which i believe is coming in a few weeks.  Happy friday all!

Review: The Gilded Chain (Surrender #3) by Lauren Smith

No-Brainer

Title:  The Gilded Chain
Author: Lauren Smith
Publisher/Year:  Hachette Book Group 11/3/15
Length:  352 pages
Series:  Surrender #3

Overview

Explore a hidden world of erotic fantasies, where the greatest pleasures are stolen and the fiercest passions are untamed. . . For years, Callie Taylor has been obsessed with two things: a man she can never have and escaping to Paris where she can follow her artistic passions. But everything changes when Callie meets Wes Thorne, a wealthy, mysterious art collector and famous dominant. Despite all the nights she’s spent dreaming of another man, it is Wes’s predatory gaze that suddenly consumes her every thought and sets her body on fire. One touch from him promises unforgettable passion, but Callie knows that passion often comes with a price… From the moment he sets eyes on Callie, Wes is intrigued by her artistic talent and her delightful innocence of all things erotic. A stolen kiss leaves him aching and desperate to claim her in a way he’s never wanted any woman. But first he must convince her to surrender her control. And what better place to seduce an artistic soul like Callie’s than Paris?

My Thoughts

I think that we all had really high hopes for where this next installment was going to take us since we knew that Callie was going to have a HUGE broken heart and Wes was kind of inclined to partake of all that she had to offer (whether she knew it or not)

This 3rd book in the series takes us from Long Island where Wes is working to help investigate an art theft for a painting that’s not only valuable but also one that he helped the family procure the piece so it’s personal that they stole it from their home.  The journey then goes to Colorado where Wes goes to both oversee what’s been done to the ranch but to also see Callie.  Then we’re taken to Paris as a result of both a business trip that Wes has and a bet that he has with Callie to take her to bed.

The path that this story goes on from here on is the expected yet unexpected journey of Callie learning to get past her first broken heart, and understand what she is as a sexual woman, grow as an artist, and then discover what Wes has to offer.  THEN, it’s a matter of Wes deciding that loving her or lusting after her is worth it since it’s something so different for him.

We are go from here is one of trying to get to the bottom of the theft, and determine who’s behind it.  we’re led on a wild goose chase of sorts, the thief is someone we know but not truly known (mind you i thought it was someone else) and then, there’s an almost death.  SO….all that, it’s a great story that gives us this couple’s journey and wondering whether it’ll actually work given their VAST differences in life.

On that note – the teaser for the next story is GREAT and i can’t wait to see where all of our beloved characters net out.
