Overview

From strip clubs and truck stops to southern coast mansions and prep schools, one girl tries to stay true to herself.

These Royals will ruin you…

Ella Harper is a survivor—a pragmatic optimist. She’s spent her whole life moving from town to town with her flighty mother, struggling to make ends meet and believing that someday she’ll climb out of the gutter. After her mother’s death, Ella is truly alone.

Until Callum Royal appears, plucking Ella out of poverty and tossing her into his posh mansion among his five sons who all hate her. Each Royal boy is more magnetic than the last, but none as captivating as Reed Royal, the boy who is determined to send her back to the slums she came from.

Reed doesn’t want her. He says she doesn’t belong with the Royals.

He might be right.

Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.

My Thoughts

I’ve clearly been on this thing where i need to read light and airy YA books and this one falls right into that description.  What we have here is the introduction to a trilogy that will really just take us through what it’s like being a teen who’s live was one way and routine and then all of a sudden, it’s something completely different.

As we read in the summary, our leading lady Ella has had a bit of bad luck her whole life.  Her mom passed away, she never knew her father, and she’ll do whatever she has to in order to survive and get to college etc.  When things seem like they are working out, she finds herself being taken away from all that and thrown into the world of wealth and all that comes with it all because of Callum Royal who was best friends with her father.

If that weren’t enough, bring along 5 testosterone laden sons, 2 of whom Ella’s attracted to and one of those that she perhaps may even love….then an entire school of catty girls and guys who will say whatever they want about her because she’s different.  Callum seems to be the only one on her side, the sons want nothing to do with her, and she really would do whatever it takes to get out of there and live her life on her terms.

While i usually see a bit of ‘coming of age’ in these things, it’s really just about survival here – being able to make it through the day with everyone who’s against her in this new environment, and just when she thinks she’s turned a corner, it all blows up in her face.  People that she felt she could trust – she can’t, and when she almost had enough to allow for survival if she had to run, that’s all gone too since she tried to protect one of her brothers.

We’re left on a cliffhanger – Ellas world is completely upside down again and she can’t trust anyone.  Her heart’s been broken and she’s on the run.  Can’t wait to see where she goes and who comes after her in the hopes of finding her.  Everyone’s got an agenda and i feel like it may be an unlikely suspect that comes to her rescue.  we’ll have to wait and see.  Have a great day all!
