Overview
When rich, handsome, and arrogant meets beautiful, brilliant, and ambitious, things are bound to get tangled
Drew Evans makes multimillion-dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed? He’ll tell you he has the flu, but we all know that’s not really true.
When Katherine Brooks is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.
How can one woman turn a smooth-talking player into a broken, desperate man? By making the one thing he never wanted in life the only thing he can’t live without.
My Thoughts
I feel like i keep jumping around the series that Ms Chase has written, going from recent to past to even further past. but i guess it’s all a non issue when it’s all new series right? The nuance to this story is that we have it from the mindset and POV of our male lead, getting not just his view on things but his full on narration. like how his brain is processing everything word for word.
So as you can imagine, the plot of this story is one powerful guy who is used to getting whatever he wants, never having a client get away, never losing a woman to someone else, and well, that seems to be happening all of a sudden, all due to one Kate Brooks walking into his life.
The way that Emma chase writes his internal dialogue is entertaining, and i have to say that he’s clearly whipped by how he feels about Kate, and while that’s sweet and all, it’s not at all like the strength and confidence that we see in the other leads that we have from other series that she’s written. I don’t mind it, it’s just very different than what we’ve had from everything else.
Then there’s Kate – the woman who’s causing all the ruckus. She’s fresh in her new job, and starts off the story in a very long term relationship – one where she’s been engaged for something like 7 or 10 years, and where she’s killing it professionally, she’s not getting what she needs personally, so it’s a shock when perhaps Drew is able to do that for her.
As expected, we have maturity issues, trust issues, and the overall question of whether anything good will come out of these two and their chemistry. They’re put against one another at work to get new clients and that’s fun to watch. and then they decide to act on their attraction which is also fun to watch. even more so when it crashes and burns.
So all in all, a very sweet story – one that’s obviously not meant to be all that deep and meaningful but one that’s exactly what you hope for when reading a summer book. i hope you guys enjoy and now i’m going to start reading the 2nd book in the series. Have a great day!
Lol – some series you can read any way you want.;-) I’m happy you enjoyed it!!!
