Overview

Knox Price has always fallen short in comparison to his brothers. Boone is the ambitious one. Clay is the nice one. Gage is the handsome one. And Knox? Well, he’s the cynical one. The odd man out in the ultra-wealthy but rather unique Price family. It’s not that Knox hates people–it’s that humanity always disappoints him. When you become an oil-rich, Texan billionaire overnight, people treat you a certain way. Just once he’d like to meet someone that isn’t dazzled by his wallet.

Then, he meets struggling yoga teacher Lexi Brandon. She’s weird. She’s unpredictable and tends to say strange things. She lurks in the bushes and dresses in all black. She loves when people cross the street to get away from her. Lexi’s definitely not his type, but she’s also the first one to ever truly see him and not just another rich, dirty Price.

And that’s…fascinating. But how do you catch the interest of a woman who goes out of her way to be odd? When an unexpected surprise throws them both for a loop, Knox decides it’s time to get down and dirty, abandon the rules, and be who he truly is–a bastard.

My Thoughts

I love how this third installment dovetails nicely out of the 2nd book – really picking up mid-story so that we see how the scenes intertwine when Lexi and Knox first meet.  when it was mildly amusing in the Nat/Clay’s story – it’s really full on entertaining here.  Who knew that Knox had it in him to be as dark as Lexi?

This story takes us on a slightly different path than the others – where the reasons that the couples weren’t together before were self imposed, it seems like there are other factors here with these two, and that makes you really want to stick with it and see what comes of it.

I love how Jessica Clare writes Lexi’s character and dynamic into the mix.  We know that the Price brothers are a unique sort, but she’s the polar opposite but she’s got her own reasons for it we quickly learn, There’s so much stress in her life – starting from high school that helps paint the picture of who she is, and why she’s so skittish of Knox and his intentions.  ‘Abusive’ ex husband who she married when she was 18, uber strict parents, a stalker where she lives now…..any woman would want to stay away from men and be a bit dark to keep everyone at arms length.

The journey that we go on is really sweet.  Knox plays the game REALLY WELL to find a way into her life and heart and he has the purest intentions too which makes you want to root for him that much more.  He’s protective, creative and a good guy.  Even when he has to deal with the family tragedy of Seth’s death.  Add to that the impending birth of an unplanned baby and well, this story is going nuts.

Where the other couples were more firmly rooted in the sweet romance, the dark nature of this couple means that we’ll get some fairly steamy hot scenes and they are intense.  it’s great to see that our author is able to change up the intensity for the different couples to make them feel so unique.  So…i guess now i have to wait until the next installment comes out since Gage still needs his story to be told and it sounds like there were hints in this story of a woman who entered the picture…..so i’ll be patient and wait for it.   enjoy!
