Overview
He’s the bastard of the empire, a savant, a genius, and a self-made success. He left it all behind, but he came back for her.
Their passion is a flame that ignites more than their bond. It ignites secrets, lies, and a puzzle that once solved, will shake them to the core.
You know one deep, dark secret, but you do not yet know anywhere near everything.
My Thoughts
I LOVE this series – for so many reasons! To back up a second, i made the silly yet stupid mistake of reading a few things out of order i think, but on well right? I read The Bastard when it first came out and that introduced me to Eric, Greyson, Harper, Mia, reminded me that the Walkers exist since i clearly forgot about them and then took us on a journey. I then picked back up with the Walker Security series so that i could really get into the minds of everyone in this amazing deep ‘family’ and well, thank goodness The Princess finally came out!
Eric and Harper as you’ll recall have one of the most complicated pasts that you could imagine. Step Siblings sure, but there was an attraction from the first moment they met, but it was one that wasn’t meant to be then, or perhaps ever. But we know that in this genre, that’ll never be the case and they will likely piss each other off and so many other people because they just can’t stay away from one another.
So in this book, we find that they can’t stay apart, Eric feels the need to protect Harper when someone is clearly after her, even when he’s been given information by his half-brother Isaac to imply that Harper has lied to him about some of the most important things. Add to that the fact that they are both still trying to figure out what’s going on at Kingston and who’s behind it all, at the same time, knowing that Eric had/has ever intention of taking the company down as well.
We can clearly understand all the drama here right? It’s layer upon layer, secrets, lies, no idea who to trust, and some really intense passion and chemistry. Which Lisa Renee Jones is known for!
We find ourselves going from Denver back to New York in the hopes that a change in location will keep them safe, but of course that’ll never be the case. An assassin is sent to kill Eric which is unsuccessful. Attempts are made on other peoples lives and each time it happens, we find that we’re no closer to answers since the game that we thought certain family members were playing become less obvious because of who’s being taken out. One key player is left on life support in the ICU after being a target and that was a shock.
Throughout this story, we see that the Walker security clan plays a pivotal role – we rely on Blake to help decode things, and we see that Savage and Smith once again are front and center. (i LOVE Savage – just going to put it out there that i need a story about him STAT!). When yet another set of a coded messages come in and Harper can’t figure it out but Eric is triggered – well that means that their world is about to implode yet again.
Because….Eric has been hiding something, and Harper learns that he has been lying but not about what yet and it seems like this could be game changing!
I don’t think that we needed the intensity of the romance and passion that these two share, but i have to say that it was hot and such a compliment to this crazy insane story. When you see how Eric needs to protect Harper at all costs, and how she wants to do the same for him, knowing that he’s got this side to him that needs a savior, well of course it means that they’ll combust when they come together for a break. Their scenes are so hot that the flames leap from the page, in a dirty yet really sweet way which is the trademark of our author. I can’t wait for Book three to come out – The Empire i believe it’s called -and it can’t come fast enough! Enjoy!
