Overview

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on? And will they even be together?

My Thoughts

Trust No One, and Is Love Enough?  These are 2 things that we have come to adore about this series and those same thoughts really pull us through this entire 4th installment.  When we last left these characters, everyone had gone to rescue Beth from Daedelus and had trusted Blake to get them in and out safely.  Of course we know that Blake CANNOT be trusted, and he burned them again.  Katy is now trapped inside and has been captured.  She’s going to quickly find out what Beth went through and figure out how to survive.

Daemon of course is having a hard time being on the outside since he’s now admitted that he loves Katy and that she’s his world.  He’s so adamant about getting to her that he even willingly goes against the Luxen and decides that he’d rather be with her and have to leave the community – so that’s what he does.

This story not only takes us through Katy’s journey inside Area 51, but brings Daemon along for the ride.  We learn that the Luxen and Arum aren’t the only ones out there.  Hybrids are more common than we know, and there’s an interesting twist when a Hybrid and Luxen mates.  aka….ORIGIN.

Once these 2 get one challenge behind them, they  face a world of struggle, and it’s really interesting where this story takes us.  We think that we may be over one hurdle only to get double crossed by someone that you’d never expect and then find that things are even worse than they seemed just moments ago.

The way that this 4th book ends is great since the anxiety was really built up and hedged in such a way that you really wish that the next book was available for download right now.

This installment has certainly solidified my opinion of Jennifer L Armentrout as a great contemporary/fantasy author since she’s managed to bring a perfect blend of Sci-Fi and YA Adult into this story that it seems real while giving you that fantasy edge.

Enjoy all!

Review: Opal (Lux #3) by Jenniver L Armentrout

It’s funny sometimes how book releases just creep up on you.  I don’t know why, but i had it in my head that i’d have to wait a heck of a lot longer for the follow up to Onyx to come out….and yet i didn’t.  NICE SURPRISE.

So, in Book 3 Opal, we are at a time in the story when Daemon and Katy’s relationship is going strong even though it’s a really hard time for every one of the Luxen because of Adam’s death, and the discovery that so many people weren’t who they seemed.  all that being said, katy continues to try her hardest to get back in the good graces (or at least not on the receiving end of a shit show) from everyone….while enjoying the heck out of the new found romance that she has with Daemon and is able to share.

So…this book takes us down that road, where Katy’s trying to be strong with everyone, Dawson is back, and he’s trying to both adjust to life out of being captured while trying to get Bethany freed as well.  that’s a tough one.  Blake returns, UN-surprising….cause everyone knew that he couldn’t just disappear after the rumble and ensuing death.  So Blake comes back, and everyone has to rely on his ability to get them into the secured home base to get Bethany (and Blake’s pair Chris) out ….in the hopes that good will happen and that Blake can prove to be trustworthy.  can he?  we don’t really know.

There’s also the ongoing stress and anxiety around whether or not Will is going to make his move.  We are lead to believe that he’s still in contact with Katy’s mom and that he says that hes going to come back but we don’t know if that means that the ‘healing’ that Daemon was forced into worked or didn’t.  That leaves everyone on edge, but it’s not the biggest issue for the crew so it’s on the back-burner.  for now….

What i liked in this story is a bit of what we got from Twilight.  (apologies if you’re not a fan).  In Twilight, Edward is really adamant about making sure that Bella gets all of the human experiences and rites of passage that she should have as a human.  the same goes here for Katy.  Daemon makes sure that she’s going through the motions as well….college applications/or thoughts about college, prom and all that other stuff.

So…this book takes us on a definite roller coaster.  We are dealing with pain and hurt that’s due to a death in the family, the building of a strong relationship and romance, the relief that a family member is found even if he’s not 100% back to his old self…yet there’s all those same issues with struggling on if someone can be trusted, not knowing what you’re getting yourself into….and where it will all end.

This story ends on a high note – one that i kind of saw coming, but didn’t really think was going to happen in the way that it happened.  I can’t wait to read book 4…..it’s a shame that we have to wait for Origin for so long….

Onyx by Jennifer L Armentrout

Long awaited but well worth it.  that’s my first thought about this story – book 3 (sort of) in the Lux series.  Touted as Book 2 because there was a prequel, but to me it’s book 3.  in any event, we’re brought back into the world of Katy and Daemon and pick up right where we last left them

they had fought Arum and won – Daemon (a Luxen) some how managed to heal Katy (a human) when she almost died trying to protect Daemon in a power struggle with the bad guys.

so….here we are with Katy (a.k.a. kitten) and Daemon – still ‘connected’ to each other some how, and yet still trying to fight it.  oh how surprising is that?

we’re introduced to a new character in this story:

Blake – he’s the new kid in town, and of course that makes things fun given that Katy was the new kid at the onset of the series.  Blake is the surfer kid – good looking and mysterious because no one knows much about it.  of course he and Katy have some type of instant connection (enter the love triangle).

what happens from that – well – you’ll have to read the story to find out – but just know that Blake makes Daemon’s green eyed monster (sorry for the pun since he DOES have green eyes) come out – and well, Katy sort of has to choose.

As i was reading the story – i had my suspicions on how it was going to end up, and for the most part i was right.  i didn’t quite guess all the twists and turns which actually makes me really happy.  there were some unexpected happy things and a few unexpected SAD SAD things – but all in all – this was a good follow up and i can’t wait until OPAL comes out.  DECEMBER 11, 2012 – that’s what i’m reading now as the release date so 5 more months to wait….hopefully i can bide my time with another one of the amazing Jennifer L Armentrout’s series.
