Overview

Kylie may be a makeup artist to the stars, but she knows what it feels like to be overshadowed. Especially by her famous boss, the pop star Daphne. That’s why she’s stunned—and delighted—when one night at a party, she attracts the attention of a gorgeous stranger. But when Daphne decides she wants the handsome billionaire for herself, Cade Archer is suddenly off-limits for Kylie…

Cade has known Daphne for years, and always wondered if she might be the right woman for him—even though she never gave him the time of day. But one sizzling night with Kylie has changed everything. So why is she suddenly avoiding him? Fortunately Cade is determined to get what he wants, and he’ll do anything to show Kylie she can get everything she wants too…

My Thoughts

I love this series and i think that we all really wanted to see something good happen for the last of the brotherhood – especially since his story line has been set up throughout quite a few of these books in the series.  We know that he’s been pining after Daphne, who happens to be Audrey’s Twin (Audrey is with Reese now if you remember and she’s Logan’s assistant) and Daph is also Gretchen’s sister (who’s with Hunter).  So this whole story line is very intertwined.  We got to know a lot about Daph in previous books – she’s a pop star who’s battled addiction for the longest time and while Cade is always there to try to save her and help her, he’s really running out of patience.

It’s only when he runs into Kylie, who’s ironically a make-up artist for Daph’s tour that things start to change.  Not only does Cade realize that Daph isn’t the right one for him, but he realizes that maybe he has to let her go completely.  Of course it’s much easier said than done when you’re talking about an addict.

Where this story takes us though is on the crazy fast relationship with Cade and Kylie and i have to admit that it’s a nice one.  what was meant to be a one night stand turns into so much more – and while it’s something that they have to keep hidden for various reasons, that’s also something that makes it that much better.

Kylie’s got her own fair share of things going on in her life.  She’s got a senile grandmother that she’s trying to take care of now since she was told she was a burden to that same grandmother her whole life.  On top of that, while Kylie likes how she looks, it gives her a lot of insecurity, and that’s something that always comes up in this story – although Cade is the kind of guy to make it that much better.  and makes her feel beautiful.

Stopping there for a second, i have to say that this is one of the things that i really love about Jessica Clare’s writing and of the characters that she develops.  She doesn’t write about these perfect characters.  Yes most of the brotherhood are AMAZINGLY GORGEOUS but they all have flaws of some sort, and the women are very real as well.  I think that’s something great to a reader or at least to this reader since i feel like i’m always reading about beautiful perfect thin girls in these stories and when they go shopping they look great in everything.  that’s not real for me, so the fact that we get ‘real’ girls here, and real men for that matter, it makes it that much better.

but back to the story – in typical form of Ms. Clare, we also get some great scening.  These men clearly know what they are doing and Cade is no exception.  He’s a romantic of course and he’s human, so when things happen that aren’t expected or even aren’t ‘good’ – well we see honest reactions and that’s great.

In addition to this romance, we get to see the underlying issues of a tour going awry – friendships growing and dying and a family being torn apart.  Knowing that this is the last of the brotherhood, i’m a bit sad, although i have a feeling that we’ll get to continue the journey with them at some point.  so on that note, enjoy this installment and HAPPY THURSDAY!
