Overview

Some princes are charming. Others are assholes.

I’ve spent most of my career writing tabloid articles about the royals of Montovia, and Prince Andrew, the heir to the throne, was always the one that intrigued me most. He’s so guarded, so mysterious…so ridiculously attractive.

And then I met him. And I found out he’s the most arrogant, smug, infuriating man to ever live.

He also desperately needs my help.

There are three things I know for sure. First, Prince Andrew has a secret. Second, he’ll do anything to keep it a secret. And third, in spite of how infuriating I find him, I can’t help being incredibly attracted to him.

My Thoughts

I desperately needed something light to read for a minute while i was both traveling and getting through Throne of Glass since that’s a really ‘deep’ series.  So…i stumbled across this series – the first novella in the Royal Mistake Series. To be honest, it was exactly what i needed in the sense of being light and airy – but ….it’s a story that likely needs to be developed more as it probable will be in the coming installments.

So in this first book, as the summary tells you, we come across our leading lady who is a tabloid reporter who’s assigned to the royal family of Montrovia – a country that i’m guessing us supposed to be a version of Great Britain.  Anyhow…we start the story where she is the guest of one of her close friends Elle who is engaged to a Royal, however since Prince Andrew, the heir knows that she’s a reporter and doesn’t allow them at state dinners, he has her deported.  That’s where things turn for her i suppose.

So she finds herself back in the US at work, hoping to pitch another type of story where she doesn’t have to follow the royals around (a task she’s found herself in given that the Queen trusts her because of a story she helped spin a while back), and her boss isn’t having it.  She tries to resign, only to find the Prince in his office, looking for her help.

Then there’s Prince Andrew, the heir to the throne and the one that’s got a huge reputation to live up to.  Apparently there was a night in Prague a while back that he did something that he isn’t proud of and that can ruin his reputation along with that of his country – so he’s in a bind to try to spin the story before it comes out.

That’s where our character’s paths cross once again.  He needs her, she wants nothing to do with him.  Add in a plane crash and a quest for survival, along with an attraction that they don’t want to act on and we have the beginnings of a story.

The challenge that i have here, which i should get over since it’s a novella is that it’s light.  There’s not a ton of depth to it, but again, that’s kind of what i wanted to i don’t think that it makes ALL that much of a difference.  Then there’s the little twist of what they find out as news coming out of Montrovia of the plane crash – and that’s where our first installment ends.

So, all in all, exactly what i needed and while it was light, i’ll give the rest of the series a try since i think that i need something that doesn’t require a lot of my brain power to process.  Have a great day all!
