Overview

We’re both addicted to sex, just not with each other.

High school friends – nothing more.
That was our promise to each other, because let’s face it, infidelity spreads like a disease.
Everybody cheats.
Period.
And it’s easier to remain friends than hurt the only person you ever cared about – or so we thought.

My Thoughts

We met these 2 – Scar and Julia in the prequel and to be honest, i wasn’t sure how this long story was going to fit into the timeline that we had before.  I should have had more faith in our author since she’s one of my favorites and this story solidified that thought.

If you remember back in ‘When things go Wrong’ – we were with Julia and her family on a trip in the mountains when her path crossed with Scar – the boy that she was not only best friends with in high school, but had a crush on, and they both had the same perspective on romance and relationships.  They weren’t worth it, most likely would never work and even did what they could to help break up couples that had a cheating element in them.

So fast forward to this new book, and we are quickly (thankfully) brought up to speed on where we are in their lives – it’s a few years after that ski trip – when Julia was in the hospital waiting for Scar and he up and left, leaving her just a note.  She’s not got her professional life in order – she’s a doctor, and she’s working through her demons which are tied to her sex addiction – she has never and probably won’t ever sleep with the same man twice.

To her surprise, the man in the ER one night turns out to be none other than Scar and that brings a LOT of feelings and emotions back.  From there, we see that there is SO MUCH more to their friendship but of course they still both have those major relationship issues that are so deep rooted that who knows what’s going to happen.

If we stop here for a second – think about it – there’s a chance that this story could be way too predictable, and we’d be left wondering how an author can keep us entertained for the next 200 pages or so, but here, Ms. Silks does a great job of reminding us that there’s so much more going on in life, and neatly interweaving a bit of stalking, trust issues and great foreplay.  it’s actually not until the last 50 pages or so that things start to come together, are completely ripped apart and then you’re left to wonder if it can be put back together.

Top it all off, while there’s not as much sex in here as in other books that she writes, there’s  A LOT of passion, chemistry and heat that you know that once they do get to that point, it will be explosive.  I think that we got the tease in ‘When Things Go Wrong’ to know that there is a lot between them and i love that there’s such a long and drawn out build up in this installment.

The question that we’re left with is a nice one – which brother do we want to see more of in the series next?  There’s Ace and Axle and we can’t forget the sister Grace – so i think that we’re in for a nice long ride with this series and i can’t wait!

Overview

Lazy eyes, scarred lip and brow, muscled and tattooed, Julia’s high school best friend, the one who made her heart go pitter-patter, had definitely changed in the past five years she hadn’t seen him.

Being stuck with her mom and boyfriend number one hundred at an exclusive ski resort doesn’t seem as daunting when Julia runs into the gorgeous and enticing Scar Wagner. And when fate forces the couple much closer than Julia would ever allow a man to be, she can’t help but wonder whether it’s time to give relationships another try.

After all, when things go wrong, they turn out right

My Thoughts

Another refreshing story by Lacey – and while it’s a short novella – it’s just enough to get your interested in keeping up with the series. We really only get a handful of chapters here in these 40 or so pages, but what we do get is the beginning of a great romance.  Our leading lady Julia is a product of what she has seen all her life – her father cheated on her mother and as a result, she has no trust for me and doesn’t want anything more out of life right now than to just throw herself into becoming a doctor.  while that is all well and good, it means that she’s stuck watching her mother fall in love with a much younger guy (hopefully he’s not a gold digger like Julia thinks) and she watches her sister fall in love yet again with someone who we have no back story on.

It’s while they are on a family vaca in a ski resort that Julia crosses paths with a friend from high school and well, you know how this story goes.  They reconnect – they realize that they’ve grown up quite a bit from the people that they were as teens, and well, chemistry and sparks fly.

While they are getting to know each other, they get stuck in an avalanche, and you know what’s bound to happen there.  Along with all that, they decide that they are going to come up with this great plot to break Julia’s mom up from her boyfriend (and we learn that it’s a skill that they had in high school as well).  It’s only at the very end of this short novella that we see that maybe there’s more to their relationship than they are letting on, and while it was just a day or 2 that they reconnected – well walls are being shattered and emotions may be getting tied too deeply.

I believe the next installment is coming out in March, so we’ll get to see what happens now that they are back from their vacation, with Julia in Washington at school and Scar (Nick) back in NY in his father’s law practice.  so much potential, so much to lose…right?
