Excerpt

It was not a gentle kiss. It was not tame or timid or questioning.

It burned her down to the root of Sam’s soul. It touched something deep and dark and hidden.

Something she’d thought was long since dead and buried and gone.

Patrick’s tongue slid against hers, stroking to life the very sensations she thought she’d never feel again.

It was electric, the feel of his mouth against hers. The scrape of stubble against her chin, the taste of him. The smell of his skin.

He nipped her. Pinched her bottom lip between his teeth and sucked it. And she sighed at the pleasure, at the raw ache his taste and touch aroused in her, pushing aside the darkness that haunted her.

Sam felt him. Felt everything. The heat of his skin. The warmth that drew her closer. That made her want to crawl into his lap and unzip his pants and push up that damned flannel shirt until they were skin to skin and there was nothing between them but sweat and heat.

One hand slid down her side. Tugged at her fleece and…

“Dear lord how many layers of clothing do you have on under this thing,” he muttered against her lips.

She smiled. “You weren’t wondering why I wasn’t cold?”

“Well you’d be a champ at strip poker right about now,” he murmured.

Then his fingers found her skin and she was no longer thinking.

Excerpt

He was going to kiss her.

Finally, after waiting a lifetime, Tyler O’Neil was going to kiss her.

Bold, terrified he might change his mind, Brenna rose on tiptoe and closed the gap, bringing her mouth to his.

A second’s delay, a moment of heart-stopping hesitation, and then his mouth claimed hers, slowly at first and then with deep, sensual hunger. Raw, electrifying excitement rushed through her, and she moaned against his lips, opening her mouth as she felt the skilled slide of his tongue against hers.

Everything inside her melted, and she clung to his shoulders, grateful for the solid strength that kept them both upright.

She was impatient for more, and she’d thought he was, too, but he kept that side of him reined in as he kissed her slowly and thoroughly until sensation flooded every cell of her body. She closed her eyes, luxuriating in the skill of his mouth, knowing that nothing in her life before had felt as perfect and right as this.

His mouth slid over her jaw, down to her neck and fastened over a pulse beating at the base of her throat. The brush of his tongue brought a moan to her throat, and she tugged at his shirt, needing to touch him, needing to feel. He had the body of an athlete, supremely fit, honed from hours of hard physical exercise, and her seeking hands encountered hard male muscle and smooth skin.

He slid one hand behind her head and brought his mouth back to hers in a kiss that was hot and explicit. She felt him, hard and ready through the fabric of his jeans, and she could hardly breathe for wanting him.

Would it be here?

Now?

Title: Masquerade
Author: Georgia Le Carre

Length: 226

Overview

Love is deceptive…

Fiery Billie Black thought she knew all she needed to know about her own sexuality, but that was before one night of animalistic passion with the ultra gorgeous and mysterious Jaron Rose. Tall, blond, charming and wealthy, he is the epitome of an Alpha male.

The morning after he promises he will call, but he doesn’t.

Just as Billie finally frees herself from the memories of that night, Jaron arrives on the scene again. Suddenly, all the feelings that burned so intensely are reignited and she finds herself becoming quickly entangled with her enigmatic lover. The passion is incredible, unforgettable, unbelievable, but Jaron Rose is not all that he seems-he wears more than one disguise and he is hiding a big secret.

Billie is about to find out what it is…

My Thoughts

I don’t know about anyone else, but i’m so glad that we got to get a bit of a story around Billie since she’s been more than a supporting character throughout the Billionaire Banker series.  In this story, we don’t get her back story which i don’t think is necessary – we get her current place in life and a situation that she’s needed yet didn’t quite know.

From what you’ll all remember, she’s Lana’s best friend, and as such, Blake has set her up in an apartment in a posh area and she’s leading the life that she was meant as a designer.  The challenge for her though is that although she’s gotten her life together in all of those aspects, she’s still missing the one thing that matters most – someone to share her life with.  She had been with her last girlfriend for quite some time and that had eneded, leaving her lonely and in a space of uncertainty.

Enter a drunken night at a rave where she meets a man who turns her world upside down.  Fast forward us about a month or so and we come to where the story starts us off.  She’s quickly reunited with this guy – Joran, and well….who knows where things are going to go since he’s not usually the kind of bedmate that she goes for.

What we get in this installment of Billies is a roller coaster of sorts where she’s redifining who she is while trying not to get in too deep since she’s been told that Joran has a girlfriend (Ebony) who she’s met and she knows nothing about Joran.  Especially that he’s got his own secrets.

The roller coaster that we’re on though is a hot and steamy one which i’ve come to love and expect from our author Ms. LeCarre.  There’s something to be said about painting a heated and steamy picture of 2 people who clearly have intense chemistry and know what they want from one another.

The great thing here is that we get to see layers peeled off from each of them – we see that there’s more to Joran than he lets on and through the ENTIRE story we’re trying to figure out why he’s so mysterious.  I don’t know about anyone else, but my expectation and assumptions of what he did weren’t exactly on target – although not uber far off.  I think that where their journey takes them is a nice one – and it certainly showed us that there’s more to Billie than we ever knew before.

I kind of wish that this were the first of a series about her, but i think that based on the closure that we got – it’ll be a stand alone.  Regardless, you get exactly the same level of entertainment, sex and passion in this novella that we got throughout Lana’s story and i hope that you take the chance to read and enjoy.

Excerpt

‘First let me tell you what you’re going to be doing tomorrow. At sharp three thirty p.m. you will bend over this table, your elbows and hands and cheek pressed against the glass, your ass in the air barely covered by lace and some transparent material that rips easily. Baby doll nighties and thongs are my favorite at the moment. What you are doing is waiting for me to come and fuck you like the little bitch you are.’

My mouth drops open.

‘The rims of the thong will become soaked very quickly and you will consider using your sweating hands to masturbate to relieve the ache, but you will not. Instead you will keep that position, nipples and cunt tingling, and wait. The high heels you’ll be wearing—I like black— will make your calves cramp, but you will ignore it.’

My pussy clenches like a boxers fists, but I pretend to snort.

He ignores it. ‘At four I will turn up. You will not turn around to look at me or speak to me. No matter how wide your legs are I will have to correct the position by kicking apart your legs and flipping the last bit of covering over your back, so your ass is totally exposed to me. I will roughly rub your panties, find the jellied part, and dig my fingers into it. You will immediately raise your hips higher to try to catch more of my flesh, and moan the way you would if you were begging for it.

‘I’ll tell you to be quiet. That you are not to make a sound until I allow it. I will flick your clit through the material and your body will start bucking and squirming. At that moment I will swat you on the fleshiest part of your buttocks just once, but hard. My fingers might strike your clit. It will make your head spin and you are bound to cry out from the surprise. But if you do I will spank you again. Just to hear you cry out and see the blush spread. And again, until you are panting and dripping onto my hand. Excitement, shame, joy, desire.

‘Then I will back off, make myself a cup of tea and drink it while I stare at your reddened ass, ripe for the picking. Once I have had my tea I will undress. Slowly. You will strain to hear buttons, material scraping my skin, shoes sliding away, socks pulling, zip tearing. I will grasp the reddened, burning skin in my palms and feel its weight in my bare hands.’

I try not to show it but his dick is slowly growing inside me and I am starting to want him to fuck me all over again.

‘Then I will pull the warm red cheeks apart and holding them apart with one hand I will slide my finger into you, first one, then two and eventually three—the way you like it, the way I did the first night we met. You will moan, and shiver and maybe even grunt like an animal. Your head will start to lift off the table—you are about to come. That is the moment I’ll stop and will ask you to touch yourself. You will take your hand off the table and press it between your legs, turning your head to look at me while starting to masturbate.

‘“Do you want my cock in your pussy?” I will ask. “Yes,” you will whisper. I will ask you again. “Yes, yes,” you will plead.

‘And that is when I will ram so hard into you, you will shudder and scream and arch and quiver and come in a screaming rush.’

‘I won’t be in at three thirty p.m. or four p.m. tomorrow,’ I say coldly.

Review: The Young Elites (The Young Elites #1) by Marie Lu

Title: The Young Elites
Author: Marie Lu
Publisher/Year: Penguin Group 10/7/14
Length: 266
Series: The Young Elites #1

Overview

I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.

Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.

Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.
Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.

My Thoughts

I’m so happy that this new series from such a great author is so different than what we had before.  There’s really no sense of time from this one so it’s not classified as dystopian in my mind – which is nice as well.  Based on the overview, you can see that you’re going to get a story that centers around 2 different sides – 3 different people so to speak.  And while that’s a system that’s worked in the past for Ms. Lu – i’m glad that we got it again.

In this story, we are introduced to Adelina when she’s 16 yrs old, and a mulfatto –  a survivor of a disease that scares everyone with it’s after effects.  She’s got outward scars and marks from it, while her younger sister had the same disease and yet doesn’t have any marks.  There’s a thought that some survivors have special powers – and those with powers are known as Young Elites.  Adelina’s father feels that her own redeeming quality would be if she had a power, yet she doesn’t.  It’s not until one night when she’s forced to run away from home that she discovers that she actually does have powers – which results in the murder of her father, and her imprisonment.

That’s where our story crosses the path of the 2 other characters noted above.  Telen is the inquisitor who’s to execute Adelina, and Enzo is the one to swoop in and save her, since he’s actually a Young Elite.  From there on, the story goes down a path of trying to rein in Adelina’s powers and find a way for the other mulfatto’s to be free and survive.

The underlying story here is really nice – we get the coming of age stuff that we usually get in the genre, yet we also get to see how there’s more to life than power.  Adelina develops friendships with some of the Daggers – the members of the Young Elite group that she’s taken in by – and that in itself is a nice story.  While we see that there’s a constant power play with trust among everyone, we see that it’s a dynamic that Adelina craves – almost as much as what her power stems from.

The other nice dynamic is the romance / non romance with Enzo and Rafaelle.  Enzo is the potential interest that has a draw that’s more than just friendship  but we never know what’s going to come of it.  Rafaelle however has a draw that’s from something that’s not tangible, and he’s the constant that Adelina needs.

It’s only when Telen comes into the fold and tries to use Adelina that things go awry.  So where we go for the rest of the story is a nice mix of fantasy, anxiety, angst (romance of course) and curiosity of who’s going to continue on.  True to form, some of the mains that we love throughout the book don’t make it to the end, and i have to say that i’m bummed about one in particular.  It makes me question where the rest of the series will go, but given the sneak peak epilogue, i think that there’s going to be a twist introduced that will keep me excited.  so…what does that mean for me?  i have to wait for book 2 to come out and i don’t know when that will be just yet.  I hope you guys try this one out – its true to form of the great writing that we’ve come to expect and experience from Marie Lu.

Review: The Death Cure (The Maze Runner #3) by James Dashner

Title: The Death Cure
Author: James Dashner
Publisher/Year: Random House  1/8/13
Length: 352
Series: The Maze Runner #3

Overview

Thomas knows that WICKED can’t be trusted, but they say the time for lies is over, that they’ve collected all they can from the Trials and now must rely on the Gladers, with full memories restored, to help them with their ultimate mission. To complete the blueprint for the cure to the Flare.

What Wicked doesn’t know is that something’s happened that no Trial or Variable could have foreseen. Thomas has remembered far more than they think. And he knows that he can’t believe a word of what WICKED says.

The time for lies is over. But the truth is more dangerous than Thomas could ever imagine.

My Thoughts

This series has taken me on a journey that’s taken significantly longer than i ever expected it to.  After reading book 1 that i really enjoyed and then getting stuck on book 2 and having to put it down, i was hoping that i’d get re-inspired to want to continue on.  Nope – i started reading The Death Cure and it’s taken me WEEKS when it usually just takes me a matter of days to get through something.

So…where are we in this series?  We’ve gotten through the Scorch and we know that everyone’s been taken over again by WICKED and things are going to be downhill from there.  Thomas is in a position where he doesn’t know if he’ll ever trust Theresa again, which isn’t a bad thing, and he’s found a new ally in Brenda which is rather surprising to me.  Her role in this story is a turnaround from where we were in book 2 – and it’s not until just a little bit later that we see that she was a pawn in things – and put in a position to lead the gladers in the direction that the Chancellor wanted.

So we spend much of this installment on the run, in Denver trying to find the cure – since that’s what we’re being led to believe is the ultimately outcome.  We come across Gally here, whom i think that we all knew wasn’t dead, and turns out to be somewhat of an important person in the series.

What gets me about this story is that it’s a very long winded path to get where they need to go, and once they’ve gotten to the end, it’s kind of like ‘um….yea – that’s kind of what i figured’.  Once they are back in the hands of WICKED, the group is split up not even Group A v. Group B – but a mashup of the two – so we wonder throughout who is going to be with us in the end.  The other revelation that comes of all this is that there are ‘munies’ or people that are immune to The Flare -and WICKED has a plan to reinstate the trials to get new subjects to test variables on in the hopes that they can find a cure.  It’s really round about since i think that we all know that there’s not going to be a full circle of another trial set up, but really just understanding what’s going to happen to keep that from happening.

So – after getting stuck about 200 pages in, i put it down, and then kept trying to pick it back up.  with about 100 pages left to go last night, i just put my head down and pushed through it just so that i could get to the end.  What i’m not surprised about in this story is what they watned Thomas for, and what the ultimate experiment would be to find out why he was ‘The Final Candidate’  If anyone else was surprised – then i don’t know.

The ending felt like it was a bit rushed – with explosions, deaths, another flat trans of sorts – a secret letter and map from The Chancellor and then the sketchy email correspondence that we saw at the end of book 1 and sporadically in book 2.

all in all, i’d say average, or maybe even less than average.  I’m curious if i come back to it a few months down the road that i’d change my mind since that’s what happened when i re-read The Scorch Trials, but i can’t say that I want to be bothered to do it.  The good news here though is that finishing this book puts me over my 2014 Reading Challenge from Goodreads – so that’s the positive that i can take from this.

With a foundation of lies and fear to put the past behind them, their blossoming relationship is tested by family, friends and enemies.
As threat looms, trust and honesty are broken, and Emma and Eric’s lives are flipped upside down. Can they withstand the storm and find a way to stay together, or will each have to go back to their corners of the world?

My Thoughts

LOVED IT!  it’s funny – when you spend so much time with a set of characters and then are forwarded on a bit in their lives to supporting characters, you find that there are such endearing qualities and story lines that rise up.  If you’ll all remember, in the Layered series, we got to know Tristan and Julian VERY well – and saw bits of Emma – the little sister throughout.  while she wasn’t a main, she had a decent B role in those and it’s about time that we get to see what she grew up into.

In this first installment of her story, we get to see that she’s definitely not a 13 year old girl anymore – she’s lived life and has dealt with her fair share of pain and injustice and it’s only a matter of time before something gives.  In this case, it’s the continuous prodding that really leads things awry   As we begin to get to know where Emma’s life has put her down, we see that she’s battling the loss of her true love, her dissatisfaction with her job, and the over bearingness of her big brothers.  Fortunately she has a best friend in Grace that pushes her to her limits and that of course can’t end well can it?

It’s on the chance night that she’s lost a bet to strip that her world changes for ever – she spies a man with amazing eyes in the crowd and barely makes a connection with him before her brothers turn up to take her home . We all wonder about this man of course, but we’re left dealing with T&J taking her away.

The journey that Ms. Silks takes us on here is a good one – that’s well balanced with passion, emotion, romance and anxiety.  Emma has been put on a case from her family business to help locate and find a man who’s responsible for kidnappings in a rural town hours away.  It just so happens that the one of the victims is the same gorgeous man that Emma met at the club, so things go from interesting to hot pretty fast.

The questions throughout the story are answered and avoided in a really great manner.  We begin to see how Emma’s mind as a PI works, and as she’s putting the pieces together, I did the same.  i think that i came to the same conclusions that she did just as quickly, and i think that’s the intention here.  Lacey our author seemed to make it clear yet not overt in order to keep the flow of the story….which worked out.

As we get towards the end, there’s a high of anxiety and fear.  Will the find the man that they are looking for before anything else happens or will they have to deal with more pain and suffering.  Will Emma and Eric have something to look forward to together? and i don’t know if anyone else wonders still, but w/o giving 2 much away – who do the 2nd set of boots belong too?  My money is on Cash (Grace’s brother) – i don’t know why i have that thought, but there was a weird coincidence of him showing up when he did.  I’m excited to see that several next installments will be coming in just a month or so, – ENJOY!

Overview

Being tied down to just one woman was the last thing Dominic wanted. But from the moment he laid eyes on Kate, he couldn’t deny his overwhelming desire for her or his need to possess her.

My Thoughts

First off i have to thank the folks at Netgalley for providing me with this ARC – in return for an honest review.  Well that overview clearly doesn’t say much – but i’ll give you the gist.  We know that Dominic was put into a bad situation where he had to ‘marry’ Bianca while she was preggo in exchange for his ‘freedom’ of sorts.  This meant that he was away from Kate and that wasn’t very good for their relationship.

Where we are now in the series is that they are finally back together and Kate’s pregnant with their first child and surprisingly Dominic is VERY excited about it.  That comes to a surprise to just about everyone because that’s not Dominic’s style, but nevertheless we see that it’s great for these 2.

Kate’s insatiable because of the baby, so we certainly see a lot of heat and passion continue on with these two.  As is the case in the other two installments of the series, we get to see a lot of chemistry both from the fact that there’s intense love as well as the way that they combat each other.

Just when everything seems like it’s going to be perfect for them, Kate experiences a life shattering event and things come crashing down.  Where the rest of the story takes us is on the journey of what it means for Kate, what that means for Dominic and what their future will hold.

There were also mini bits of the story that came up there were on my mind throughout I’m still not sure that they were resolved properly.  I kept waiting for Gora or Bianca to turn up and cause trouble or for the divorce not to happen, and we don’t really see as much into that as i’d expected.  i feel like there was a lot of opportunity for more adversity here and there were teases – but nothing finite.

To be completely honest, it’s taken me a really long time to get through this 3rd book.  It’s very different from what i felt reading the others – which were quick reads and kept me super engaged . I don’t know what it was about this story, but i feel like it dragged.  I think that i was hoping for the passionate love story that we had thorughout the other two and while it was VERY clear that there’s love here – i don’t know – it just didn’t hold my attention as well.

What’s nice about this story though is the ending.  We get an epilogue in the final chapters (and epilogue of sorts) that gives you a lead into what will be and then we get a true epilogue that introduces yet another angle of the story that i’m willing to bet will either be a #4 in the series or an adjunct series.  So, all in all, it was ‘eh’ and i always feel bad about saying that – but i have to be honest.  I’d love to hear anyone else’s thoughts when you check this out.  maybe i missed something.

Excerpt

Melody went with Steve willingly, around the side of the barn to where his truck and a horse trailer waited. He helped her into the driver side and she slid into the middle seat, checking her watch to make sure she didn’t get too far behind schedule. No way did she want another repeat of her hellish Monday.

“I’ve got thirty minutes tops, otherwise I need to phone the clinic and let them know I’ll be late.”

“You won’t be late,” he promised.

They rattled down a short side road but instead of turning toward the highway, Steve took them along a back trail that led through the trees into a clearing at the side of wide-open ranch land. Nothing lay before them but miles of low rolling hills. To the west, the Rocky Mountains rose above to the sky, the craggy peaks decorated with a tiny dusting of white in the highest cracks and crannies. The tree line broke off to expose granite greys and flashes of white quartz.

It was an amazing view, and she was glad it was something she got to see every day of her life.

She was still staring in admiration when Steve parked the truck and jerked open the door.

Melody followed him out, but couldn’t see any signs of an animal that needed attention.

“Do you want me to be a veterinary to the squirrels?” she teased.

He whirled, catching her under the hips and pulling her against his body so he could kiss her fiercely. Her back pressed against the cold metal of the horse trailer as his overheated body met hers.

“You’re driving me crazy,” he confessed when he finally let her breathe. “I’ve been aching to touch you since the weekend. I need to be inside you.”

Melody didn’t have the words to protest, especially not when he put his lips to her neck and sucked. A flash of heat went from his mouth through her entire system, and she clutched his shoulders.

She was in motion again, this time her feet on the ground as his hands scrambled at her belt buckle. “I want you right now,” he demanded.

The clock was ticking, but his hands were doing incredible things even as Melody tried to make the right decision.

“Oh, God. Here? You’re not serious, Steve, right out in the open—?”

He shoved her jeans down to her ankles. He stripped off his shirt, dropping it on top of the wheel guard of the trailer while she stood, pants around her ankles, admiring the broad bands of muscles on his torso.

Then she was on top of his shirt, her knees spread wide as he pulled her forward to his eager mouth. Her ankles were trapped together by her pants, but Steve didn’t seem to care.

Melody shoved her hands into his hair to catch her balance, but there was no catching her breath as he ate greedily. His tongue danced over her clit until she was gasping, the sound loud in contrast to the wind in the trees behind them. Everything that had to be done that day vanished as her world closed on this time, this place.
